June 22nd Azteca show
June 22nd's Azteca show at the Grand Olympic saw Villanos III, IV, & V defeat Super Porky, Brazo De Oro, & Brazo De Plantino in the main event. We will have complete results for the show up later. Also of note the show reportedly drew about 600 people, which is a terrible number, especially considering this same promotion drew over 5,000 just a few months ago.

I don't have the official numbers but one count was 1100, I thought closer to 800, some said 6-700. All paid, no paper. Still a disastrous turnout, mainly due to the boxing PPV one must assume.
However, those that were there were very vocal and went away happy. A weird night in general. Principe Unltd./Acero Dorado/Rosa Salvaje d. Super Arana/Genio/Fantasma Atomico Rosa was over with exotico spots, Arana is someone to watch in the future. Hurancan Ramirez (SoCal version)/Durango Kid/Chilango d. Impacto 2000 y Los Chivos Chivos came out in Taliban get-ups, and were their usual superb rudo selves. Octagoncito/Mascarita Sagrada d. Piratita Morgan/Pierothito Streetfight: Misterioso d. Mascara Sagrada (original) and Damian 666 Not good. Some angle went on afterward where the Familia de TJ and Misterioso's gang the 'Reyes del Escandalo' challenged each other but the bad sound killed it. Then came this seemingly endless bit with a big-time Mexican kid's character, sort of a pinoccio-looking Barney knock-off with a high pitched voice. TORTURE! Even the kids were pissed. Azteca needs to stop bringing in these outside entertainers (like the stupid drag queen who killed their April show). Next came a big surprise, as the main and semi got switched around. Santo needed to catch an early plane, so the semi was: Hijo del Santo/Tinieblas Jr./Super Parka d. Pentagon Black/Hijo del Diablo/Scorpio Jr. Everyone worked hard, good to see some IWRG guys up here, mixing things up. Main was the Villanos d. the Brazos. These guys worked their asses off and really elevated things for the main event status. BLOOD! The beatings were severe, and after the match they continued to the back. And I mean CONTINUED!!! Olympic security was panicky, and the beatings were so stiff it looked real to them, so they were getting ready to pepper spray everyone. Then a couple of fans got involved and had to be yolked and it got pretty froggy. Quite amazing! This show ran smoother, had fewer outside distractions, and super hot ring gals. Music and sound sucked. Tiny crowd, but everyone gave it their heart. Live and learn, do not oppose a major boxing PPV. Lucha shows in June: AAA at the 17K seat Sports Arena and major FM radio and Tecate sponsors = 2500 TJ from last week = 700 TJ last night = 500 Olympic tonight = 1000 Lucha is competing with everything from proms to grad parties to World Cup to boxing PPV's, and each other. Not a good month for the biz. (info provided by Carlos Zamora, Keith Rainville, Nathan Long)
