SoCal's getting jacked, once again.

OK, we've all had this discussion before. Moves are moves, and they will be stolen somewhere down the line, no matter how original they are. With that said, I still think it's lame to steal original moves.

At the 2/14/04 Ring of Honor show, CM Punk used Super Dragon's "Curbstomp". I've also heard about Vito Thomaselli using this as well.

And now, I hear MDogg20 used the "Zokre Dive Fake" at an IWA-MS show. Well, I knew it was inevitable that the "Zokre Dive Fake" would be stolen, more sooner than later. Still sucks that it got jacked though.

Also, while not really "stolen" per se, I've noticed a lot of people using the chop/strike combo in the corner these days. Again, not really "stolen", but seeing this combo done more and more on the Indy circuit is... interesting.

Meh. Well, is it a matter of people not being original these days? Or can you say that "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery"? Or, to go out on a limb, sometimes people come up with moves at the same time. But I'm sure in the case of the "Curbstomp" and the "Zokre Dive Fake", those were straight up stolen.

Thoughts?

The Curbstomp is the head stomp off the top rope, right?

Nope it's this move: http://shanesphotos.com/wrestling/ga...mages/0810.jpg

I think it kinda sucks that SD's moves are getting stolen but considering who is stealing them I think It's more of a compliment to the move rather then outright thievery.

As long as they don't claim that it is original, I don't have a problem with it. Hell, they may have asked for permission to use the move at some point.

I think we are stuck Mr. Scrubie. When things get done here, the world don't notice, yet when it's done on the east coast where most of the indy crowds and tape traders are, everyone sees it.

This is just part of the biz, has been for years. You know I've had conversations with a certain so-cal star that is known for stealing moves and his response is always, "this is wrestling, no body owns anything. Everyone does a body slam and dropkicks."
But signature moves different. They help define a wrestlers persona. I always thought there was a gentlemens agreement about stealing signature moves, but it happens to often.
On a shoot interview with Chris Daniels he told a story about the Last Rights, how he went to a WCW tryout/workout and a guy, I totally can't remember his name, saw it then started using it on TV a couple of weeks later.
AJ Styles also comes to mind. When he got big everyone was seeing his finisher. The list of guys that started using the Styles Clash after that was crazy, all within a month or two.

It's a very sad state when you can watch a show and see what tapes the workers are watching that week.

Oh shit, THAT move. That sucks, it has become a Super Dragon trademark in ALL of his matches as of late.

1.) When does this "gentlemen's agreement" thing expire? For instance, people who use a DDT; are they all stealing from Jake Roberts? Is anyone keeping score? Not really. If you come up with something new and some guy crumbsnatches it, be happy. Either way, he's got good taste or you're a genius. Better to be the guy they steal from, than the one who steals, yes?

2.) Daniels once gave Messiah shitty looks 'cause he thought Messiah's gimmick was too similar to his own. Besides that, "his move" is the Pedigree with a right turn. At least no one will ever steal the Curry!

3.) I saw Vic Grimes using the "Styles Clash" before it was the "Styles Clash"....

Actually CM Punk said he got the Pepsi Plunge from Dave Prazak. Dave was gonna use it, but got a hip injury and didn't wrestle anymore.
CM Punk I bet hits the Curbstomp sloppy as hell like all his moves, I could see him falling over out the move or something.

A lot of time has pasted and Mr. Roberts is out of the spotlight. If a guy is on his way up, and someone jacks his sig move, that he spent nights thinking up that fits his style, when he trys using it he will get shited on for stealing it. If Rising Son did the Fake Kick now, everyones going yell 619, not that Rey Rey stole it, but same principle.

Well this is gunna turn into opinion. I heard a story and thought it myself that Black stole the idea from Daniels out of spite. Daniels did work for XPW before Messiah had the gimmick, and Black did/does hate Daniels

Vic was one of the guys I was thinking about, but maybe I'm wrong and he was using it before it got big.

Interesting topic.
While I understand the disappointment....it happens everywhere....
With promotions running in the Northeast, Midwest, Fla., Pacific Northwest and SoCal...moves are going to get jacked no matter what.
Even weird moves like the SAT's Spanish Fly, which back in 2001 was kinda neat to see live...have been used and modified by Kazarian and Nova in SoCal over the years...although I hear Nova vehemently denies using it...
Vic Grimes, of all people was inventing all kinds of neat moves with Erin O Grady back in 96/97...including what is now dubbed the styles clash...
I just watched a tape of early Cadetes Del Espacio and was shocked to see Venum Black back in 1997 doing Dragon rana's, running standing shooting star presses and the Code Red/BluePrint high impact sunset flip spot that is happening all over the place these days....
As long as Punk doesn't use it in SoCal...I guess it is okay...
Territoriality an jacking moves oftentimes can be done without people even realizing what they are doing is jacking a move....
I'm pretty sure that Jose Maximo stole his Maximo Explosion from the Crowns Gate back in 2000....yet Ted Hart was doing a variation of the same thing in 98 and probably had no clue or care about who else was doing it....Much the same...Jarelle Clark was doing a 360 splash in Florida (IPW) back in 2000 around the same time that Jack Evans and Vince Hall used the move in Canada.
People are always going to steal spots and moves...if they can be done with great execution and swiftly and NOT in the person's home territory where they took it from...I have no problem....
I do dislike when they jack a move and rename it with their name attached...especially if it is blantantly and obviously stolen....

it sucks when socal brings a worker out here and they steal someone moves.
they go to the east coast and use the moves they got out here and the fans
think there og and try to put down the socal scene.

Let us all not forget that some mother fuckers stole the "tiger mask kick" kick from me, and called it the 619. And let us not forget when low ki stole and entire SPOT from excalibur b-boy and i from MPW. BASTARDS!!!!! Not really, but while it does suck it is kinda cool to see Rey Jr doing a move that I invented. All in all who gives a fuck lol as long as people in your "scene" arnt doing it it doesn't much matter i don't think. I mean if people are doing peoples moves on the same show it sucks especiall if it's a signature move. But when do you have too many signature moves??? It never ends. It's just one of those things that sucks to holy hell but there isn't a lot you can do about it other than bitch and then get over it.
