What Would Excite You These Days?

So the post went up about SoCal being boring, and I tried to make it exciting by stirring the shit, and then everyone got uncomfortable and the thread died... Which proves, SoCal is friggin' boring!

So, instead of bitching, moaning, whining, crying, complaining and kvetching; I've decided to try and do something about it and renew my interest and passion to make a product I could enjoy, and hopefully in turn attract a large audience that feels the same way.

So... My questions are these...

What do you the fans want to see?
What would capture your interest? What would grip your imagination?
What would make a show a must-see show for you?
Arr you more into work-rate then character? Japanese style, strong style, or lucha? Sports entertainment, traditional or a balance? Hardcore?!
What is it that you guys want to see?!

DISCUSS!!!

I personally think a nice mix of everything is best. I'm more partial to the old school, psychology heavy stuff, which doesn't necessarily mean boring. (Adam Pearce is a great example.) But as far as a complete show, I think it needs a bit of each. You need compelling characters, but also believable characters. I think over the top, yet believable characters are missing today. (Like a Bruiser Brody or Randy Savage.) A legit nut or bad ass! I could go on, but I think that's a good enough start.

Agreed, definitely more cowbell.

But it is tough to have that kind of character, because society has just changed. Those guys lived the psychotic nut gimmick day in, day out.
That just doesn't fly these days.

Another thing I've talked about with some people is that wrestling nowadays is a bunch of kids/boys/youngsters that are more athletic, but definitely still smaller in stature, as opposed to the days of old where it was larger than life, grown men, fighting in the ring to settle grown men business. Dare i say, the manliness has been drained, and instead it's now just younger.

What I want to see?

A mix of everything.

What would capture your interest? What would grip your imagination?

As a 30-y.o. fan who has grown up watching the changing, evolving styles of professional wrestling, and how the territorial systems changed into where there are a handful of "big league" promotions, and a bunch of smaller, indie promotions, I say while it's great to see all these young, athletic wrestlers, I really do think the scene could use more "larger-than-life" wrestlers--both men and women. Shows featuring a mix of these athletic, young wrestlers; and larger-than-life wrestlers would do the trick in my books. The storylines and storytelling in matches also has to improve, too, and that goes for any promotion.

Arr you more into work-rate then character? Japanese style, strong style, or lucha? Sports entertainment, traditional or a balance? Hardcore?!

A mix of both work-rate and a standout character. As for the styles, I say a mix of everything--from the athletic styles, to the technical styles, and everything in between. It's why guys like Bryan Danielson is so popular today. As for the style of presenting a wrestling show, it has to be a balance of sports entertainment, and traditional to me. That goes back to my idea of storytelling in matches, and stronger storylines that will draw in fans when they're ready to "end it". Hardcore or not, a final match to end it has to be "open" IMHO--that is, don't book a winner and how they do it--let the wrestlers pre-plan their move sets, but also leave it open for both of them to entertain & show their wrestling skills. Whoever wins, wins, and the promoter has to go from there. And that, is what I want to see more, whether if it's a small promotion, or a "big league" promotion like WWE!

So what I'm hearing, reading, getting messaged about is that people want to see grown folk handling grown folk business.

Larger than life is a way of life, and without tootin' my own horn, something Kaos and i did very well, and something XPW as a whole did too. The vibe itself was larger than life and carried a reputation, whether you liked it or not.

keep the discussion flowing people.

If you are insinuating a senior citizen wrestling show, I'm all for it.

That is how feuds & storylines should be resolved...in a grown folk manner, whether it's a standard match or a hardcore match.

I think people have gotten so cut up in athleticism and work rate that nowadays matches tend to be matches, and less about beating the hell out of each other which is truly what wrestling was always all about.

actually Gutter Mouth, back before MMA was actually a used word, wrestling was about fights. The old carnival days it was about a fight.

Grown Folk Manner would probably mean any way that seems more real and threatening then most matches on the scene
