Death Valley Driver Video Review released their list of the top 100 women wrestlers. SoCal's own Cheerleader Melissa and Looney Lane received rankings.
62 Cheerleader Melissa
63 Yuka Nakamura
64 Obacchi Iizuka
65 Yu Yamagata
66 Tanny Mouse
67 ARIYA
68 Ran Maru
69 MARU
70 KAZUKI
71 Drake Morimatsu
72 Mitzuho Ishikawa
73 Keiko Furuta
74 Mercedes Martinez
75 Yumi Ohka
76 Chiaki Kashida
77 Teruko Kagawa
78 Chitose Yamamoto
79 Sherry Martel
80 Haruka Matsuo
81 SAYA
82 Miss Janeth
83 Looney Lane
84 Jackie
85 Tiffany
86 Malai Hosaka
87 Lady Pentagon
88 Kaori Nakayama
89 Buffy Republic
90 Estrellita
91 Marcella
92 Mighty Molly
93 Mika Nishio
94 Karina Duval
95 Amber Holly
96 Jazz
97 GEE STAR
98 Tamoko Morii
99 Miss Natural
100 Dawn Marie
I was surprised to see Melissa and Looney beat alotta the WWF talent. I still think Mighty Molly, Jazz, and a handful of other chicks ranked below the SoCal'ers are better than Looney and Melissa. Well, Melissa is better than Looney, IMO, but Molly is better than both of them. If Melissa was given, lets say, 6 more months and if she continued to consistently work, she could be notches above Jazz. I didn't know Dawn Marie wrestled, nor have I seen recent footage of her, but even I personally think Lita is better than Dawn Marie.
Congrats to both Cheerleader Melissa and Looney Lane for their respective rankings (and being better than Lita, according to the DVDVR).

Oh man Scrub you are going to make me retype my whole US Indy and WWF women explanation post again aren't you :)
Nah (I will just give you the link to that and the write new stuff - Here (http://www.deathvalleydriver.com/wwwboard/thread.asp?id=147059&whichpage=1)
In regards to Cheerleader Melissa, to quote Dean "Me n Rippa are SOOOO up under her skirt."
Now, I am going by all the matches I watched off the webcasts - but I honestly thought that the Melissa/Lane match from the August show (Unfinished Business?) was the best US Women's match during the time period. Good back and forth action, given some time to develop. Melissa busted out the Stretch Plum (which if that was her finisher would have gotten her into the top 50) and the Running Powerbomb. Lane is will to take the forearms in the face and excutes her moves better than Lita.
I also thought Melissa outworked the Ballards and carried her the comedy segments against Nova in the Six man from Oct.
In regards to comparing them with the WWF women - we see more of their "matches" if you will but they are generally the same. Bulldog, bulldog, blown bulldog, bulldog. Molly Holly has become all gimmicked up and is starting to get sucked into that mailing it in mode that happened to Taka and Funaki after awhile.
I don't like Jazz at all. Not one bit. She stayed on the list because Dean went to bat for her and because Tom and Marcel are marks for the Double Chickenwing.
Dawn Marie wrestles mainly in the NorthEast. I saw here in some Chaotic and Pete saw her in one of the many Long Island feds. She actually can run the ropes and keep her pants up as opposed to Lita. Plus, she has a more developed moveset than Lita.
I think that is everything

Good point.
Now that I think about it, I guess that was the best US Women's match at the time, or any time for that matter. I honestly can't think of a US Women's match better than Melissa/Looney. It was the best, for what it was.
The six-man was a worthy notable as well. Have you guys seen Cheerleader Melissa vs. Jardi Frantz? I'm assuming you guys have...
Plus, I'm assuming you nor Dean have seen her new red gear. If you haven't, make sure you get a copy of MPW's January show, ASAP! Especially since that show has Melissa posing for some "provocative" pictures in the ring. *wink wink nudge nudge* OK OK, the pics aren't that provocative, but the Melissa/Ballards/Rising Son/Excalibur camera skit is quite the treat.
In regards to Molly and Jazz, I guess I was just basing their older work, rather than their work within the last six months. I like Molly because she definately carried Victoria (former WWF prospect) in her UPW match in April. Plus, I've seen her older WCW work and I really dig that. Molly does a nice Northern Lights, some pretty good springboards, and the fact that Dean Malenko trained her already makes her a top candidate above the SoCal'ers. All Melissa needs is more fluidity and she'd be able to hang with Molly, if not, go past Molly.
I was basing Jazz on her ECW work. She definately outworked Jason and she hung with Nova, Kash, Chetti, etc. My top 3 US chicks would be: 1) Molly 2) Jazz 3) Melissa with Jazz barely passed Melissa. Just barely. Pretty much neck and neck with Jazz ahead by a tiny bit. Like I said, all Melissa needs is more fluidity and she's good to go.
All the SoCal'ers are better than Lita because, they don't have that lost look that Lita has in every match. Although I think Looney and Lita's headscissors are pretty equal. The only thing that differentiates the two is looking lost in the ring. Looney appears to know what she's doing. Their movesets are almost identical.
Also, did you guys forget about the ARSION/SoCal workout? Yea, I'm pretty sure you did, considering ZERO legit US females showed up. I still hold that against the SoCal chicks. So that may be another reason why I think Molly and Jazz are better than Melissa and Looney. I honestly think that Melissa and Looney could have learned a ton of shit from that one workout, but they no showed the workout, and blew their opportunity of a lifetime. But that in itself is a whole 'nother story.

Well, I agree Lita sucks. I think Melissa's placement is about right, as she is in my mind one of the top US indy females, but I have to question how Looney Lane was top 100 and Lady Victoria didn't make the list. I guess her XPW matches (were those in last 6 months?) and her TJ stuff wasn't seen by the playboyz, that can be the only excuse for her not being on her. Melissa is maybe the only girl near equal with her in SoCal (someone book Melissa vs. Victoria). I'm not disagreeing with Looney being ranked mind you, just that Lady Victoria wasn't when I felt she has been all around better.

When did this take place? How was the match?

Yea, where was Lady Victoria?! She is better than Looney, and pretty much matched with Melissa. I'm pretty sure you guys don't watch XPW or a good amount of TJ shit, otherwise, Lady Victoria would be on that list. But then again, she ditched Mexico's Most Wanted for Damien Steele *ugh*.
I'm not too sure when Jardi wrestled Melissa, but I know it was pretty recent. On Melissa's website, she also mentioned that she wrestled Robert Thompson of the Westside Players 2000.

XPW is not watched by me so one of the other playaz would have had to made the judgment on Lady Victoria.
I mean I thank God I remembered Cheerleader Melissa last night. I was on the phone with Dean and suddenly I was like "Fuck, I seem to recall that I liked Cheerleader Melissa". So I rewatched all the webcam stuff and made Dean watch it too.
I am back into watching all the UPW stuff so I can the Red outfit in question soon.
Rev also accused me of watching more UPW than folks in SoCal ;)
And who do I have to blow to get the Melissa/Jardi match?
Oh - and the ARISON workout tape because I know NONE of us have that.

Yea, but Lady Victoria works TJ, and I'm sure you guys watch TJ lucha.

The red outfit will make you salivate. MPW's January show definately has it. Pick that up for sure.

BWHHAHAAAAHAHA, yea, it's true.
And who do I have to blow to get the Melissa/Jardi match?
Jardi or Melissa. I'll let you decide.
Oh - and the ARISON workout tape because I know NONE of us have that.
It's clipped on the end of the ARSION show where Ohmukai and Hamada beat Lioness and Yoshida for the TwinStar belts. It has their whole SoCal visit clipped on the end of that show. The 10/21 show I believe.
And at the time, I went on this "anti-socal-ho" tirade because the SoCal chicks decided to no-show an ARSION tryout, even after there was a verbal commitment. I still think Melissa could have made it in ARSION, even if she started out with Yamagata or Takase. But something leads me to believe that Melissa would have been involved with Bionic J, one way or another. SoCal chicks blew their opportunity.
If I remember correctly, I think Rossy is holding open tryouts for girls in Mexico and USA i think in February. But applications and tapes and portfolios had to be sent in January. Would those other US Indy chicks be interested?

I just watched the Melissa / Jardi match from the APW lite show. I thought the match was good for what it was. The match was mostly Melissa taking a beating from Jardi, but Melissa did get some nice offense in on occasion. If the DVDR guys had seen this match before the list came out I'm sure Melissa would have moved up a few spots.
