*JT HYATT PROMO*
JT Hyatt came to the ring to open the show with a promo, talking about how his scheduled opponent, "Brawlin" Bo Cooper was not there and so therefore Hyatt wanted to add his name to the match between Orlando Mathias & Tommy Angels, to make it a three-way dance. APW Management agreed to set this match up for later in the show.
On a side note, I know that Bo Cooper has a cracked eardrum that he suffered during a recent match, and that is why he didn't make the trip up to Hayward. Bo hopes to be back in action soon, and I hope to see him back in APW in the near future. Get well Bo!
*SIX MAN TAG MATCH*
*THE BEACH BOYZ (Lance Chandler, The Grand Kahuna & Nathan Rulez) vs. THE MAFIA (Chris Colioni, Vennis DeMarco & Sal Soprano)
In what was going to apparently be a 3-on-2 Handicap match, turned into a 3-on-3 when The Mafia introduced their newest member, "Big" Sal Soprano! This was a great addition to The Mafia, as Sal is one of the biggest men in APW and will really help them in their battle against The Beach Boyz.
This was an entertaining six-man tag to open the show. Things got out of hand about 10 minutes in, and all six men were brawling with each other. There was then some sort of mix-up between DeMarco & Colioni, and DeMarco got rolled up by Lance Chandler and The Beach Boyz picked up the victory.
After the match DeMarco & Colioni began to argue with each other, and even got into a shoving match, until Sal got between them and calmed his parnters down. The Beach Boyz picked up the win, but it looks like Sal is going to do a good job of helping The Mafia maintain their status as a top team in APW inside & outside the ring.
WINNERS: The Beach Boyz ( * * )
*3-WAY DANCE*
-Tommy Angels vs. Orlando Mathias vs. "Wholesome" JT Hyatt
This was a very exciting match that turned ugly half-way through when Hyatt seemed to have bused his nose, and started to bleed all over the place. He did so when Angels bodyslammed Mathias onto him, and squashed his nose.
The match between three up and comers trying to make a bigger name for themself in APW came to an end when JT Hyatt picked up the pinfall and the victory after a hard fought match. This was a huge win for Hyatt, who continues his steady climb up the ladder backed by the support of his fan club; "The Milk Duds".
WINNER: JT Hyatt ( * * 1/2)
*RUFF RYDERS PROMO*
The Ruff Ryders (Robert Thompson & James Watkins) came to the ring accompanied by the man who we had found out was driving the car at the last show that picked them up, saving them from a street fight against 5 other teams, Noah. Now for those of you who don't know, Noah was a fan that Thompson had bullied around for the past few shows, and then for some unknown reason he surprised everyone by coming to the rescue of Thompson at the last show. So now we have Noah hanging around Thompson and Watkins, and he claims that he wants to be called Notorious NOAH.
The Ruff Ryders introduced NOAH and pretty much said that they were going to beat Immortal Fear later tonight, and Boyce LeGrande would win the Internet Title from JJ Perez. Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see about that.
*INTERGENDER TAG MATCH*
-"Fly Daddy" Jardi Frantz & Akuma vs. Melissa & Tiffany
This was a very out-of-the-ordinary match in which two women took on two men. Akuma had gotten the snot kicked out of him at the Garage Rumble last month, and seemed to be looking for any friend, and that is when he came across Jardi Frantz. Akuma can barely speak English, and was even carrying a mirror to the ring so Jardi could check himself out before the match started. With the attitude Jardi has been displaying lately, it seems like Akuma is the only guy who can put up with him. Before the match Jardi told the girls that he was going to get "what he wanted", and made a few obscene gestures towards them.
However, Melissa and Tiffany worked hard, and proved they were no ordinary women. They really took it to their opponents and worked a good match. About 15-minutes in Jardi grabbed Tiffany and kidnapped her, taking her back to the dressing room, leaving Melissa alone against Akuma. I would have no doubt that Melissa could have delivered a win, but with her attention distracted, Akuma rolled her up and picked up the victory.
This was a huge win for the rookie, and should help propel Akuma's career. After the match, Melissa made a statement by grabbing Akuma and giving him a back suplex off the 2nd rope for good measure, pretty much solidifying the fact that she could have taken him out had her attention not been distracted by Jardi. I hope Tiffany is going to be ok, and Jardi didn't hurt her in anyway. I guess we may find out soon.
WINNERS: Jardi Frantz & Akuma ( * * 1/2)
*TAG TEAM MATCH*
-THE RUFF RYDERS (James Watkins & "Wheelman" Robert Thompson) with Notorious NOAH vs. IMMORTAL FEAR ("Lost Boy" Billy Blade & Kaden) with Payton
This was a very exciting and fast paced match, and to tell the truth, I haven't seen any team give Thompson & Watkins a run for their money in the last six months that they have been together. This was so close to being Immortal Fear's big night, it was looking like they were going to pull off the upset of the night at one point, and they really had the fans on their side.
Thompson & Watkins are way too talented, vicious, exprienced etc. and in the end it was that devestating reverse Brain Buster that Thompson has become noted for that finished off Blade & Kaden. However, if you want to see a team give The Ruff Ryders what may have been their biggest scare yet, check this match out. Billy Blade & Kaden did a fantastic job, they worked well as a team, they wrestled a very smart match, and did their best, but it just wasn't good enough on this night, as Thompson & Watkins kept up their reign of supremacy over all other teams in APW.
After the match was over, The Ruff Ryders trapped Immortal Fear's valet Payton in the corner of the ring, and surrounded her. They wouldn't let Payton leave until Notorious NOAH "ran his game" on her. NOAH came with some sweet lines, and seemed like he was trying to win over Payton, even if it was just for one night...but all he got for his troubles was a slap in the face. NOAH was embarrassed in front of all the APW fans, and even his own friends, James Watkins & Robert Thompson.
WINNERS: The Ruff Ryders ( * * * 1/2)
*WORLDWIDE INTERNET CHAMPIONSHIP*
-JJ Perez defends against "Bad Boy" Boyce LeGrande
This was the match that I had personally been wanting to see all week long, and it definitely lived up to all of it's expectations and more. My pick for Match Of The Night, and what a great Internet Title match it was. Boyce LeGrande is back and just as good as he was before he left, yep the Bad Boy hasn't lost a step. And JJ Perez continues to impress me every show, and his hot streak continued to be one of the most impressive and talked about subjects in the promotion today.
A very well wrestled and hard-fought match that included a lot of dramatic spots. Boyce worked over JJ's back, while JJ worked on Boyce's left arm. Both men's offense is so immense that neither ran out of moves to use on the other. Great ending to the match when JJ Perez, after going for the Shining Wizard and getting it blocked two times in a row, finally hit the move after a third attempt, and then locked on the Cattle Mutalator forcing Boyce to submit. JJ Perez continued his winning streak and remained the Internet Champion, while Boyce didn't win the title that his partners had predicted he would, but he still gained a ton of respect from some of the fans that had never seen him work before.
I think this is one of those matches you have got to watch on your own and form your opinion of how high to rate it, but I rate it pretty high up there with some of the best matches APW has had this year so far.
WINNER: JJ Perez retains the Internet Title ( * * * * )
*MAIN EVENT AFTERMATH*
After Perez had retained his belt, we knew something was not right, and here it came... The Ruff Ryders had hit the ring, and surrounded Perez. However, in an amazing display of heart, Perez tossed his belt aside and was ready to take on Watkins & Thompson right there! The fans were 100% on JJ's side, and then Boyce attacked from behind and all three men began to stop a hole in the Internet Champ. Just then the unthinkable happened, and Thompson turned on Boyce LeGrande and started to pound away on HIM!!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing, as The Westside Playaz themselves was totally destroyed, and Thompson/Watkins teamed up to beat up BOTH JJ Perez and Boyce LeGrande. Then things became even more shocking when The Ruff Ryders started beating up their newest member, Notorious NOAH.
Thompson & Watkins never cease to amaze me, and this may have been their most disgusting display yet, as they turned on their own member/partner, Boyce LeGrande. Thompson got the mic and let us know that we must have all been "stupid" to think that they were going to forgive Boyce & just let him join them, and the same for NOAH. This was a huge shocker, and the fans just sat in silence, mouths wide open, not believing what they were seeing. Total carnage in the ring, with Boyce, NOAH & JJ all laying face down while Thompson/Watkins punched, stomped and even whipped them to a pulp.
It finally took APW Commissioner Gabe Ramirez to come out and put an end to this by saying that he has found opponents for The Ruff Ryders, and on May 15th in King City they would be taking on MEXICO'S MOST WANTED (Damien & Halloween) in a Falls Count Anywhere Match! This was a huge announcement, as we already know that Asian Cougar will be making his APW debut that night, but now this huge match has been signed.
Watkins & Thompson seemed to have accepted the challenge. The show ended with The Ruff Ryders standing over a beaten trio of Boyce, JJ & NOAH while they had just been challenged by MEXICO'S MOST WANTED for next months King City show.
*NOTES*
-The LeGrande/Perez Main Event was the match of the night in my opinion. Both worked a great match, and it had a very suspensefull and exciting finish. It's great to see Boyce so on top of his game after such a long absence. This guy proves again that he is a natural in the ring, and he hasn't lost a step since he was at his best in 1999 & 2000.
-My second favorite match was Ruff Ryders/Immortal Fear Tag Match. Great energy given off by everyone, and it was fun cheering for Blade/Kaden when we all thought they had a chance to score a huge upset.
-The NOAH stuff was ok, but I don't think he will be back anytime soon after the whipping that Robert Thompson gave him.
-What I am looking most forward to is the King City show on May 15th. I was already excited about seeing Asian Cougar, but now the puzzle pieces continue to come together, as we now know we will be seeing Falls Count Anywhere between Ruff Ryders & Mexico's Most Wanted. What a great acquisition for APW, using Damien & Halloween should make the already good show, totally awesome!
-Next Gym Warz will take place on May 1st at 6:00pm. That will be the final show before King City, so you can expect a lot to go down that night as well. Good show overall, nothing spectacular, but some things got decided, some surprises & announcements were made, and we got a couple of really good matches.
