View Full Version : The Return of... What Are You Listening To Right Now?! [Part 9]

Yeah, what started as me being curious as to what people were listening to (on the old board), is now some sort of pseudo-tradition here. And since SCU now has a general discussion forum, what better way to kickstart this forum by adding a music thread.
Right now, I can't get enough of anything on the Stones Throw label.
What are you guys listening to? I'm always down for giving new music a chance.
How about PC and Hardware Thread?
We can discussion about OS, PC, iMac, iTunes, iPod, hacker, piracy, file-sharing, download, warez, illgeal software, software, hacking xbox into PC and more.

Sorry Tom, not everyone listens to hardcore.
But I do. Well, some hardcore.
Lately, I've been listening to:
AFI
Misfits (permenant spot on the list)
Rage Against the Machine (permanant spot as well)
Dillinger Escape Plan
Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio DVD
Atmosphere
2Pac (Permenant spot on the list)
50 Cent
Killswitch Engage
Bleeding Through (Tom, if you haven't heard this band, I strongly suggest you DL)
In Flames
Meshuggah
Bad Religion (permenant spot)
The Blood Brothers (Although, I don't think they're as great and talented as everyone says. Dillinger is a much better artcore band)
Thought Crime
Bouncing Souls

I couldn't even pick a favorite anymore. When I was younger, that song did have meaning to me though. You can't hate on that.

Is this album any good? The single makes it seem like it would sound pretty generic.

I love the album but the single is definitly not the song that would define the album if anything the single is the only song on the album that sounds like that. The rapping that is done on the single was doen by the lead singer of 12 stones. all the other songs have a very gothic melodic sound to them. Its slow so you may not like it Lonnie but man the lead singer of Evenaescene can SING!!!!

Evanescene is the true face of all that it is evil in the world of music today. Never mind the Christian bent, never mind that they are unoriginal, I accuse them of the greatest sin in rock and roll! What is that, you ask? The sin of being FUCKING BORING!!!!
The new Cramps album "Fiends From Dope Island" however is spooktacular! Features the bone chilling hits "Papa Satan Sang Louie", "Big Black Witchcraft Rock", "Elvis Fucking Christ", "Dr. Fucker MD", and my personal favorite, "She's Got Balls".

Evanescence is generic nü metal. They sound like they rip Lacuna Coil a lot too from the song I heard.
Diablo

They do sound a "little' like Lacuna Coil... maybe "slightly"... but the Italian meastros are light years AHEAD of Evanescence. My suggestion would be simply this... get EVERYTHING by Lacuna Coil (from the brilliant 1st s.t. E.P. up to the recent masterpiece "Comalies") & ignore the above mentioned "Fallen" C.D. Amy Lee can indeed sing real purty... but she is NOTHING compared to Christina Scabia. The Coil have been around ALOT longer & have a completey CONSISTANT body of work. Not sure if Evanescence have that kinda staying power... & it's actually quite interesting that they're getting such mainstream attention. Blame it on the WWE maybe ?
On it's own... no Lacuna Coil comparisons... it's a pretty damn good C.D. though. The track "My Immortal" is absolutely haunting. Maybe borrow someones C.D & give it a listen before buying.

my ears are bleeding:
to a lot of old stuff.
Basia --time and tide, cruisin' for a bruisin', one note samba, drunk on love, etc etc
Karlheinz Stockhausen --29'53", gesang der junglinge, and his other weird ass artsy fartsy "tunes"
Aphex Twin --'26 mixes for cash' (one of my all-time favorite albums now)
Kay Starr --"wheel of fortune"
White Stripes --(general)
missy elliot --(general)
peaches --"aa xxx"... (purely out of "morbid" curiosity. what is this new "electroclash" thing.... hmmmm)
nena --99 (red ) luft balloons (i just fell in love with it all over again!)
micheal jackson --thriller album ... so awesome.
bjork remix: "hidden place;hearts and bones mix" by matmos
sugarcubes: "cats", "motorcrash"
cyndi lauper: '12 deadly cyns ... and then some'
pj harvey: is this desire?, stories from the city, stories from the sea
justin timberlake --"rock your body" (i know i know... its a "rock with you" rip off.. but i miss old micheal jackson and JT is the substitute.. :( )
sean paul --dutty rock
massive attack --100th window
*looks up* yeah.. not a lot of "rock". rock has really bored the crap out of me lately. White Stripes, rage against the machine, system of a down... and that's where it ends for now.

Shoplifting In A Ghost Town"
I've never seen to many stars
(And I'm never gonna see them again)
I've never known such perfection
(And I'm never gonna know it again)
I've never felt so at home
(And I'm never gonna feel it again)
I want to open these veins
And never breathe again
Because the beauty is dead...
Since February 79'
I've O.D.'ed on "lonesome" 22 times
(But who's counting?)
You'd think by now - you would've died
I'm sorry girls - I tried
(Scream these words to me)
If imperfections are illegal
Then you should call the cops
And they should lock me up
You're such a slave to the crying game
(Scream these words to me)
We'll die alone
Picture me in brighter days
With smiles on my innocent face
(Did you forget me?)
I only wanted to be loved
I only wanted to be in love
(Scream these words to me)
If imperfections are illegal
Then you should call the cops
And they should lock me up
You're such a slave to the crying game
(Scream these words to me)
We'll die alone
Could you love a face
Full of tears soaked in song?
I can't decide...
I don't know if its worse to live or die
I am stuck on "never enough"
And the corner of "never again"
Here is a hint - don't call someone
Who just sits by the phone
Leave them alone
I loved the first few days
But its not fun playing a game
You always lose
I couldn't talk to save my life
I couldn't talk to save my life

She sure can. Without the Rap in that single they'd be pretty good and obviously generic nu-metal band #345's lead singer isn't in all of their sons.
But REAL Metal is what's for me
