You guys all know that I hate to drop history lessons on here :) But this is very important and I forgot to raise this important issue before. A little over 2 years ago Saddam Hussein pretty much stuck a dagger in the heart of the US economy. You see, in the world economy, the American dollar is the basis for trade. However, in the Fall of 2000, Iraq made a huge announcement by declaring that all oil from Iraq will be bought with the Euro (the Euro at the time was brand new). This was intended to rebuke Washington's hard-line on sanctions and to encourage Europeans to challenge it (Plus Saddam hated the US). This pissed off the US government in a big way because they now had to convert US dollars into the Euro. But American analysts were laughing; the euro was new and unstable at the time, Iraq looked desperate.

But two years on, alarm bells were sounding; the euro was rising against the dollar, Iraq had given itself a huge economic kick by switching. Iran then followed suit after seeing such great results, OPEC is open to the move and China & Russia (Russia wants to convert there currency into the Euro soon) are very close to the move. Venezuela, the 4th largest oil producer, began looking at it and has been cutting out the dollar by bartering oil with several nations including Cuba (everything ties in).

The US dollar is still the world basis for trade; however this situation is capable of consuming the US's economy and its dominance of world trade. This is why France and Germany were against war, and why Blair (UK has refused to go away from pounds to join the Euro) is for war.

So what is Bush and comapny’s solution? The response to the euro threat was predictable. They came out fighting. First, to safeguard the economy by returning Iraq to trading oil in US dollars, so the US is once again the exclusive oil currency. Second, send a clear message to other oil producers just what will happen to them if they do not stay in the US dollar circle. It’s puzzling how modern and secular Iran has become yet they were named as a member of the axis of evil. Hmm. Third, this causes a severe setback the European Union which is the currency strong enough to attack the US's dominance of world trade. Fourth, they want to provide a secular state where US can maintain a huge to dominate the Mideast and its vital oil. This would enable the US to avoid using what it sees as the unreliable Turkey, the politically impossible Israel and surely the next state in its sights, Saudi Arabia (the war drums are sounding with the extreme groups from the left and right already planning).

This plan would lock the world back into dollar oil trading would consolidate US's current position and keep the US as the dominant world power… economically and militarily. This is the boldest grab for absolute power the world has seen in modern times. US government is hardly likely to give a damn about the possible slaughter of a few thousand Iraqi’s to stand between this plan. Bush did promise everyone to protect the American way of life. I guess this is what he meant.

This brings home a useful perspective on the so called "Operation Iraqi Freedom."
