Since this conflict began, Iraq's serious disregard for the Geneva conventions to me is another reason that I support this war. The total disregard for their own people's lives is completey apparent in the actions they've taken. From executing POWs, to dressing up as US soldiers and killing Iraqis who surrender, to putting buses full of people next to their military vehicles it's apparent that a regime change is neccesary in the country. Before someone says they wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't for the war, they were doing this stuff before the war! The Iraqi government has no regard for it's own people or human life. The actions of Iraq's soldiers since this began has only solidified my stance on this mission, and has made me question more the quality of person who protests this war, because protesting it, in my opinion, is the same as supporting the regime that is in power by wishing that they would be allowed to stay in power.

Someone mentioned the UN in another post and how they need to be involved in the rebuilding of Iraq, and how we shouldn't have gone in without them. I think at this point, the UN with the current system has failed. It's not really a fair stage to accomplish what's best for the world. People bring up the UN not enforcing resolutions against Isreal, and I agree. The reason they'll never be enforced is the United States support for Isreal. If Russia supported Isreal instead of us it would be the same way, as there are some nations that have too much power, and the fact that some nations can veto anything at will just adds to the UN's incompetence to me.

12 yars ago resolutions were passed on Iraq. Why is it a couple weeks ago they were still being debated and more resolutions were being created? The UN has allowed this whole thing to come to be by it's failures to enforce it's own resolutions. If the UN passes a resolution about Isreal, enforce it. Same goes for Iraq and every other country. Don't debate it and make more resolutions forever. The UN needs a serious overhaul of how it operates in my opinion.

Good counterpoint, I never said UN was perfect. But like I said in the other post, the US going against other Westernized nations in this case will lead to bigger problems. At the very least, I believe more time should have been taken and gain more support so we minimize the "side effects" later.

The hole I find in the "Saddam terrorizing his people argument" is this. Saddam has been terrorizing his own people for decades, as has countless African leaders, South American leaders, Asian leaders.

protesting it, in my opinion, is the same as supporting the regime that is in power by wishing that they would be allowed to stay in power.

At least for me, I am not arguing that Saddam should get his nuts chopped off and shoved down his throat, I am arguing the way we are going about it. We need to look at more than just Saddam.
