I don't really see how Silva clowning Franklin was an upset at all. Rich Franklin is your typical UFC can crusher that gets destroyed when he faces international competition.

Really? To be honest I think Franklin is a bit better than that...but hey honestly maybe it has just been proven. I would like to see a rematch though because I still think Franklin is more than just a glorified can crusher.

I thought Franklin was on his way to establishing himself as a legit fighter in the worldwide sense, and not just in UFC. However, seeing as he had no idea how to get out of a Thai clinch (has he ever seen one before or is Anderson Silva as master of the Thai clinch??), looks like Franklin isn't that well-rounded a fighter as I once thought he (and Arlovski, for that matter) was.

WHAT?! Rich Franklin lost? I'm surprised to say the least, as I thought he would've retained... :(

The sad thing is Silva was subbed by C and D level Japanese fighters in Pride but is a one man wrecking crew in UFC.

Well, to Silva's credit, didn't he get his ass kicked in PRIDE because he was constantly fighting guys heavier and stronger than him? My memory is fuzzy, but I think back then there weren't as many weight divisions in PRIDE back when Silva was in Chute Boxe.

He never got his ass kicked, just lost two fights he should have won by embarrassing submission. He got subbed by Daijiro Takase who was a punching bag with a losing record. Then his last fight in Pride he got tapped to that flying heelhook out of nowhere by Ryo Chonan.

Silva's main losses were to Ryo Chonan and Daiju Takase in PRIDE. His last loss to Yushin Okami in ROTR wasn't really a loss, he KO'd Okami with an upkick from his back, but he didn't realize *all* kicks from the ground were illegal, including from the back, so he got DQ'd. Other than that, Silva was winning against everyone, including Lee Murray, Jorge Rivera, and Carlos Newton. Franklin was probably the best person he's beat, other than perhaps Murray.

Chonan is about the same level as David Louiseau. Takase sucks, so that was a terrible loss for Silva.

Silva generally didn't fight guys heavier than him in PRIDE, because he was careful about what matches he took. He has actually fought at 170 before, so he's not a particularly huge 185er. PRIDE probably would have liked to put him in there with their 205ers, but he never would take those fights.

Saw the show on replay....so-so show. The Silva win was brutal BUT (and not making excuses for Franklin) Franklin did look very sluggish and not so "Ace" like. Yet Silva was very dominate and it looked like Franklin (like Babalu) had the absolute wong game plan going into it...and that was hey let him grab me in the muay thai clutch and I got him right where I want him. Anyway it will be very intresting to see how Dana markets the non english speaking Silva. On the one hand he is bound to have some amazing KO wins which will look good on any highlight reel...on the other hand...he's hard to market as anything else. Also it seems more and more that there is no one in the current UFC MW that can take Silva out...could the rumors of a Lindland return become true?

As for the rest of the show....
Spencer Fisher looked great KOing Lauzon and I definitly feel he is in line for a crack against Sherk for the title BUT I feel especially after the Sherk/Florian fight that he wont be able to do much with Sherk's retard strength and excellent take downs.

Cheick Kongo...UFC's next big heavyweight was proven to have NO takedown defense or submission abilities... which should be fine againsta lummox like Sylvia BUT u need to be more well rounded if u got any chance of being the best in UFC...as relative nobody Marello proved that night.

Jon Fitch on the other hand looked amazing in his fight...does he have what it takes to outfight Hughes...dont know because I havent seen him fight anyone with Hughes's strenght and takedown skills...so that remains to be seen BUT Fitch is a beast.

Going back to Sherk...as much as I dont like him he looks like he will be as dominate a champ as Hughes is in Welterweight. Sherk is strong, outweighs his opponents EASILY and has amazing takedown abilties to keep his opponents on the ground. I can only see fighters with awesome ground games to keep him some competition (like Hermes Franca...or maybe even Joe Stevenson...though the former has a better shot than the latter)

I enjoyed Franklin's face getting re-arranged. He was, perhaps, in the sweetest Thai Clinch of all time. I don't even know why the fuck he tried to train better against that since Silva used to be with Chute Boxe, and his striking forte is pretty much Kick Boxing. Hilarious, no less.

I enjoyed it even more since it further exposes UFC's "Top Talent."

I don't even know how the fuck Franklin could have even been considered the favorite here. Silva absolutely destroying Leben was absolute reason to just hand this dude the 185lb title. I believe he KO's Hughes with next to not problem, same with Saint-Pierre, but my heart would be torn between him and BJ Penn.
