Just days away from what should be an epic of a card for the PRIDE OWGP and FEG decides to counter strike by holding a press conference the same day as the PRIDE OWGP press conference, to announce the semi/finals card for their own MW and LHW GPs.
The semis of the MW GP will see MMA veteran Caol Uno take on Ivan Menjivar while a very exciting fight will take place between JC Calvancanti and Rani Yahira.
The LHW GP semis will be highlighted by what will be the MOST talked about match in Japan, Kazushi Sakuraba will take on Yoshihiro Akiyama. Both men reached the semis on very criticised officiating so it will be intresting to see how officiating will play a role in this match. On the other side of the semis will be heavy favorite Melvin Manhoef against Shungo Oyama.
HERO's 2006 MW and LHW GP Finals will take plae Oct 9th 2006.

The whole K-1 HERO's Oct 9th card has been annopunced which will showcase the finals to the LHW and MW GPS.
Of course the biggest news of the whole event will be the fact that Kazushi Sakuraba will NOT be fighting on the show due to serious injuries suffered over his entire MMA career. Fortunatly though Sakuraba's replacement will be the man who SHOULD have advanced to the LHW semi's instead of Saku, young powerhouse Kestutis Smirnovas (16-6) and he will be facing Japanese judoka master Yoshihiro Akiyama (7-1) who has been the ace of K-1's HERO's with his only blemish being a KO from K-1 veteran Jerome Le Banner.
On the other side of the tourny will be another powerhouse Melvin Manhoef (14-2-1) and Shungo Oyama (6-9) who lost to Melvin Manhoef back in HERO's 4.
Just announced is a reserve fight for the LHW GP between former UFC welterweight champion Carlos Newton (12-10) and Tokimitsu Ishizawa (better known as Kendo Kashin) (1-2-1) whose last disaster in the MMA world was a lost to Yoshihiro akiyama.
Over in the MW GP Caol Uno (21-8-4) will face Ivan Menjivar (20-5) while JZ Calvancanti (9-1-1) will face Rani Yahira (9-1) in what should be a very intense fight. The reserve fight hasnt been set yet but K-1 reject Kazuyuki Miyata (2-4) will get a slot (heaven forbid if he gets into the finals).
In non tournmaent fights MMA vet Don Frye (16-5-1) will take on the very untalented Korean Judoka Kim Min Soo (2-3) who was last choked out by Semmy Schilt.
Brazilian powerhouse Antonio Silva (6-0) who has won by KO 5 out of 6 of his fights will face Georgi Kaisinov (MMA debut). While fan favorite Hideo Tokoro (14-11) who has contemplated retiremnt after a very poor 2006 (he lost three out of 4 fights) will face actor turned MMA fighter Ken kaneko (0-1) whose only fight was a laughable beating from Charles "Crazy Horse" Bennett.
Overall its a card filled with great fights and some real real lacjklusters....
