Weird show, everything that was supposed to impress didnt...and those that werent supposed to impress did. The biggest matches kinda ended on a sour note but the main event had a very nice classy ending.

Here are the results:

Welterweight fight: Joe Riggs over Nick Diaz via decision 3-0
Dissapointing fight...what was supposed to be a very intresting clash ended up being a slow paced fight. Diaz didnt try any takedowns while Riggs, though pounding the shit out of Diaz's face gassed out in the middle of the second due to gaining 30lbs back in water weight. Honestly that pisses me off and it should be an issue that is addressed...for someone to work their hardest (basically dehjydrate themselves) to make weight just to regain it over the course of 2 days is not healthy, plus in the end what should have been an even 170 lb fight ended up beign a lopsided 170 vs 200 lb fight. Nowonder Diaz is always pissed.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Babalu choked out Arvsdale in the first round.
Arsdale really didnt have a chance once Babalu got on top of him, match was over quick and anothe rimpressive win by Babalu...easily the next in line for Liddell.

Heavyweight Fight: Cruz over Mir via ref stoppage in the first.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE FIGHT. What should have been a easy win for Mir's comeback fight ended in tragedy when a shot from Cruz opened up a deep cut over Mir's left eye. The ref stopped the fight to check on it and Mir complained he couldnt see out of his left but still wanted to fight. Once they restarted the fight Cruz dropped elbow after elbow on the cut and Mir was left a bloody helpless mess...such a dissapointment.

Heavyweight Match: Vera over Eilers via KO in the first round.
What was supposed to be the snoozer of the televised fights ended up being the best one IMO. Vera showed off his Muy Thai skills by giving Eilers a huge right kick that stunned the big guy then followed up with a huge knee to the face that knocked Eilers out cold. 10 points for the KO and extra 5 for the victory dance.

Light Heavyweight Title Match: Liddell over Couture in the second RD via TKO.
Ah...i dont know...i think im more disasapointed in this match then happy. In the first rd both men were hessitant to lock up until finally Couture started swining leaveing him wide open for Liddell to bust his nose open. Start of the second, Couture tried to get fancy with his foot work, slipped and was wide oipen for a Liddell cross that took him down...Liddell finished it off with a flurry of rights that ended the fight.
It was starting to pick up and then just completly eneded...feel really bad for Couture as he really lost because of slipping on the mat. Afterwards Couture announced his retirement....the crowd showed their appreication by giving him a standing O and Ranyd chants. It was a very classy send off...ddespite the lost. Im glad Liddell won because Couture was probably going to retire even if he did win and that leaves Liddell in the cold...but I really wish Couture didnt go out that way.

Man, these results are hilarious.

I knew Diaz was going to lose that fight because I knew Riggs would come into the fight overweight. He started fighting at 300 pounds and he's fighting a guy who probably struggles to make 170. Really, that's pretty pathetic.

LOL@Mir losing. Mir could be a good fighter, but he's scared to take a punch from what I've seen of him.

Double LOL@ Justin Eliers being KO'd again. The only big win he had in the UFC was a KO over Mike Kyle, and he blew out his knee in the process. Since then he's just been a punching bag for KOTC level fighters.

I'm sad to see that Randy lost :(, and I want to see the fight. I was laughing my ass off at some Dana White Press Release that Tom Walters linked me where he said Liddell/Couture was a defining moment for the sport, and compared it to the likes of great fights like Ali/Frazier, Gatti/Ward, and Barrera/Morales. Randy is one of my favorite guys in MMA, but Liddell/Couture hasn't been anything special. The first fight was great, mostly because Couture humilated Liddell, who the UFC was trying to use to fill the void left by Tito as the biggest star in the sport at the time. The second fight was tainted by Liddell using his trademark eyepoke to get the victory.

Hmmm, disappointing PPV, not exactly a terrible one, but it wasn't exactly an amazing one, considering the ridiculous hype it got. Kinda wish I could have seen a 205-pound  Mike Whitehead fight, but apparently the fight was a snoozer. Anyways, on to my thoughts:

Buentelo Vs. Aldana

Pretty impressive showing for Buentelo, fight started off as a pretty good slug-fest/brawl, but then both heavyweights gassed out and the fight slowed down quite a bit. Aldana looked the worse of the two, he gassed out so quickly and became such a sluggish mess that he eventually lost basically from a TKO gas-out in the second round, no joke. It was both funny and awkward to see Buentelo try and cut a pro wrestling promo after the fight though, silly Paul, tsk tsk.

Monson Vs. Hinkle

Well now, I suppose this fight could provide more fodder for the anti-Hammer House crowd. The Wes Simms-sighting pleased me though, I want to see him fight in the UFC again. Maybe a Mir-Simms III, ha! Monson is a roided-up freak though, surprisingly he won by Submission. Hinkle acted like a dumb idiot a la Ken Shamrock afterwards, acting like the fight shouldn't have been called yet he was clearly choked out.

Babalu Vs. Arsdale

Babalu won by rear-naked-choke, somewhere off in the distance Frank Trigg cringed. Good to see Babalu win, and most likely get a shot at Liddell. I can't see Babalu even matching Liddell's striking power, but hopefully Babalu could get Liddell to the ground and school him just like Couture did in his first fight against Liddell.

Mir Vs. Cruz

I didn't really think Mir looked bad before he got cut, but once he began bleeding like a stuck pig it was obvious that he was basically blind and couldn't defend himself. Not sure who Mir will fight next, but it's obvious that everyone wants to see him take on Arlovski, but Mir is going to need a winning streak to get that shot, and frankly, he wouldn't be ready for it yet. Not sure where Cruz goes from here either, it would laughable if he got a shot against Arlovski, at which point I would think Arlovski would possible kill Cruz in the octagon, he stands no chance.

Vera Vs. Eilers

I agree with no1 jobber in that this fight, strangely enough, turned out to be the most entertaining. Good to see Eilers do another Flair Flop to defeat, good stuff. He's lucky he didn't break his neck either, because as he was flopping Vera caught him in the head with a viscious knee, at which point Eilers was knocked cold and drove his own head into the mat at an awkward angle. Not sure if there was any doubt before, but Eilers is officially a Tomato Can.

Liddell Vs. Couture

Bah, just bah. I despise Liddell with a passion, and I was hoping that Pops Couture would end his career with a stunning win over Liddell. But alas, it was not to be. This kinda pisses me off though, because after Babalu there is no one left to fight Liddell, except Tito (who he beat, and would likely beat again), Griffin (ahhhh, he's still not in Liddell's league), and Bonner (see Griffin). The fight was really boring though, both guys were ridiculously hesitant in the first round, to the point that I think that parts of the crowd were booing, yikes.

Just a blah PPV from UFC, I really wish I could have made it to the PWG show now. :(
