Lucha Underground Season 4, Episode 10: A Snake Scorned Review

Late this afternoon I received a phone call that Andrew has joined TIGHAR and is off to Nikumaroro to search for Amelia Earhart. So while he is off trying to prove the castaway theory (her plane crashed in the ocean Andrew! Let her be), I’m on Lucha Underground duty again this week. So tonight we have the tenth episode of season four, A Snake Scorned.

We start with a recap of the last few weeks, followed by Kobra Moon in Antonio Cueto’s office demanding a shot at the trios titles. Cueto grants the match and tells Moon to “be dra-gone.”

Somehow Andrew missed it last week, but Bad Dude Tito Escondido is in the band Metalachi again this week.

Matanza Cueto defeats Saltador

Last week Mala Suerte (Lil’ Cholo) was sacrificed to the gods last week, so the Rabbit Tribe is down one member. Paul London wants retribution so offers Saltador up this week.  Saltador had some initial offense but was quickly squashed by the monster. Matanza hits Jeff Cobb’s Tour of the Islands and gets the pin. Saltador (Mariachi Loco) is sacrificed. RIP.

The trios champs are in the locker room, and Son of Havoc thinks Killshot doesn’t like him. Killshot walks in and says he “likes him, but he doesn’t respect him.” Killshot then says he has a Gift of the Gods title shot before their trios match.

Dragon Azteca Jr. defeats Killshot to retain the Gift of the Gods Title

I thought this was really good but way too short. Honestly, if nothing else this was a good advertisement for Shane Strickland versus Rey Horus at PCW Ultra next month, as you get a chance to see how they work with each other and you know they’ll get more than six minutes there. Azteca kicked out of Killshot’s double stomp (after the announcers spent the early part of the match hyping it up), and it looked like Killshot kicked out of Azteca’s finisher, but just a half second too late.

Drago and Aerostar are on the roof. Drago’s time with Kobra Moon has made him want to quit wrestling. He didn’t say it in a Tweet though, so I’m not sure if I believe him. Aerostar seems to think they’ll meet again.

The Reptile Tribe (Kobra Moon, Daga, and Jeremiah Snake) defeat Killshot, The Mack, and Son of Havoc to win the Lucha Underground Trios Title

The match was made tornado rules, and Killshot showed up late to the match but it didn’t really make a difference. They’ve been teasing Son of Havoc versus Killshot for awhile and Havoc accidentally hit Killshot with a tope. Killshot returned the favor and ruined Havoc’s Shooting Star Press allowing Jeremiah Snake to hit a Snake Shoulder Breaker and get the pin. There was a lot of fun stuff in this and it did a good job of advancing a story that has frankly taken too long to build. After the match Killshot hits a double stomp on Havoc.

After a commercial Cage comes to the ring and starts to cut a promo. Pentagon Dark runs to the ring and super kicks Cage. The two then brawl all over the arena. At one point Pentagon Dark take’s Bad Dude Tito Escondido’s guitar then hits him over the head with it.  Cage and Pentagon continue to brawl through the credits. Cage and Pentagon Dark will have a Last Man Standing match next week.

In a post-credits scene The Mack is in Antonio Cueto’s office asking for a match with Killshot. Cueto tells him he already has a match for him. Next week The Mack will meet Mil Muertes in a Haunted House match.

I thought the show was good. The squash match was what it was, but the other two matches were pretty good. I mean they weren’t on the level of the upper tier of Lucha Underground matches, but better than most matches you’d see on an episode of Raw or Smackdown. Plus they finally moved the angle between Killshot and Son of Havoc along. The brawl was a good way to setup the Last Man Standing match without giving anything away.
