Battle of Los Angeles Update: T.K. Cooper out, Joey Janela in

After suffering an ankle injury at PROGRESS Wrestling’s first New York event, T.K. Cooper will be unable to participate in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla‘s upcoming 2017 Battle of Los Angeles tournament on September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Taking his place in the tournament will be Joey Janela.

On August 12th, 2017, Cooper teamed with Banks to challenge the PROGRESS Tag Team Champions Trent Seven & Tyler Bate. During the match, the action spilled to the outside. Cooper would climb to the top rope and attempted a Sky Twister, only to come down on his ankle. This resulted in him suffering a dislocated ankle. The injury required surgery, resulting in Cooper having to be pulled from the tournament.

Cooper was originally scheduled to face Sammy Guevara in a first round tournament match on Night 2. He was also scheduled for a non-tournament match with his South Pacific Power Trip tag team partner Travis Banks against the Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) on Night 1. As a result of this, the Young Bucks will no longer be on Night 1 of BOLA.

His replacement, Joey Janela, has become one of the most popular independent wrestlers in the past year. The east coast based worker is known for his over-the-top bumps, such as his roof fall with John Zandig last year that went viral. Janela is a regular performer for Combat Zone Wrestling on the east coast, and has made appearances in Southern California for promotions such as Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.

Not only will this be Janela’s Battle of Los Angeles tournament debut, but it will also be his debut for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. Janela will now be facing Cooper’s original first round opponent, Sammy Guevara.
