CXF 9: CALI KINGS SEMI THIS SATURDAY!!!

THE VALLEY’S ONLY PRO MMA SHOW RETURNS TO
SPORTSMEN’S LODGE IN STUDIO CITY

This Saturday, August 19, 2017, the San Fernando Valley’s only Professional MMA show returns to the World Famous Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, California for another installment of CALIFORNIA XTREME FIGHTING featuring the Semi-Final bout of the CXF CALI KINGS TOURNAMENT as well as two CXF Title Bouts.

CXF CALI KINGS SEMI-FINALS:

Showhei Yamamoto (5-2 MMA) and Roosevelt Roberts (3-0 MMA) are set to square off in the ‘Cali Kings’ semi finals, with the winner advancing to the tournament finals. In their opening round match-ups, both Yamamoto and Roberts proved that odds only matter on paper.  New CXF lightweight champion Yamamoto needed only :43 to knockout undefeated CXF stalwart Joshua Jones. While Roosevelt Roberts left mouths agape with a slick first round guillotine finish over former champion Dominick Clark. With CALI KINGS crown hanging in the distance you can bet both of these men are chomping at the bit for their spot in the finals.

The second semi-final matchup for the ‘Cali Kings’ tournament between Richard Leroy (5-0 MMA) and Darren Smith (11-7 MMA) was unfortunately scrapped. Due to injuries suffered in his epic first round bout with Jalin Turner, Leroy is unable to compete. The unfortunate loss for Leroy hands Smith a bye in the second round, which means he will advance to the tournament finals by default. With his passport already stamped for the final round, you can bet ‘Hollywood’ Darren Smith will be taking notes when he watches Yamamoto and Roberts let loose in the CXF cage.

 CXF FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE BOUT:

Darren Smith

CXF Featherweight Champion Chase Gibson (5-1 MMA) will also return to action to defend his title for the very first time. Gibson hopes to solidify his hold on the featherweight division and looks to do so in a cage where he is unbeaten. His opponent Jeff Martin (10-10 MMA) is looking for redemption in his second consecutive title fight. Although ring rust may be an issue, Martin has in the past squared off with Gibson’s identical twin brother Cooper making this an intriguing fight that cannot be missed.

Richard Leroy

CXF FLYWEIGHT TITLE BOUT:

California Xtreme Fighting will also crown their first ever Flyweight Champion as Steve Ramirez (5-2 MMA) and Mike Hansen (3-1 MMA) are set to square off for the inaugural title. Although always entertaining, this flyweight bout is even more exciting when you consider the pedigree of both fighters. Hansen has the ability to control an entire fight with his wrestling, while Ramirez finishes every fight he wins! With this type of talent in the cage, the first mistake may determine the fight. The punches come in dizzying bunches for these two flyweights so keep your eyes peeled.

PRELIMS:

Chase Gibson

Former CXF 155 lbs champion Dominic Clark (10-7 MMA) looks to reestablish himself in the lightweight title mix after failing to advance in the tournament opening round. Clark, a dynamic grappler with heavy hands, seems poised to put it all together and win over opponent Chris Culley (15-9 MMA) could be just what the doctor ordered for Clark.  However, Culley head kicks come quick and heavy. With both men having advantages, this fight could come down to who can establish themselves first. Fasten your seatbelt!

Steve Ramirez

With a long string of cancelled bouts behind him it appears Brian Del Rosario (1-0 MMA) may finally have a fight. The snake-bit Del Rosario has seen opponent after opponent pull out of bouts, leaving this normally hungry pit bull absolutely frothing at the mouth for a fight. Coming off a highlight reel knockout, his opponent Michael Jackson (1-1 MMA) makes his second appearance in the CXF cage on the heels of his first win as a pro. There isn’t enough room for both of these dogs, so lets lock the cage and see who emerges!

Dominic Clark

Undefeated CXF featherweight prospect Hayastan MMA’s Sergio Perez (2-0 MMA) returns to the California Xtreme Fighting cage in search of his third consecutive win, and more importantly a spot in the 145 lbs rankings. His opponent Fernando Padilla (2-2 MMA) will look to steal that momentum, while staking his own divisional claim in his CXF debut.  The winner of this fight will find themselves in some pretty fine real estate within the 145 lbs division.

Chris Culley

Former CXF Featherweight Champion Dmitry Gerasimov (7-5 MMA) finds his way back to the CXF cage to take on rising star A.J. Bryant (5-2 MMA) in a featherweight bout that could have future title implications. Gerasimov looks to build off of his win over Fabiano Trinade in June, a performance that perhaps was the best of his career. Bryant on the other hand, is looking to add another name to his current 3-fight win streak. His last being an impressive TKO win over Pious Enilolobo jr at CXF 8 back in June. The winner of this bout could find himself in line for a title shot.

Dmitry Gerasimov

Former lightweight title contender Joshua Jones (6-1 MMA) makes a quick return to the CXF cage, looking to wash away the memory of his first loss as pro. The always heavy handed Jones will certainly be carrying a chip on his shoulder this time, as he looks to right the ship. His opponent is well known veteran Christian ‘The Beast’ Aguilera (7-3 MMA). Equally dangerous on his feet or on the mat, Aguilera can turn your lights a number of ways. With the pedigree locked inside the cage, this fight could easily end up as the ‘Fight of the Night’.

A.J. Bryant

Rounding out the card, fan favorite Thor Skancke (9-7-1 MMA) steps into the CXF cage for his farewell fight, in front of his hometown crown to take on veteran Quinton McCottrell (11-22 MMA). The heavy handed Skancke will certainly be looking to land ‘Thor’s Hammer’ one last time before riding off into the sunset. His opponent however is coming in to the fight on the heels of a victory, and he will certainly be looking for another. Expect an all out brawl as these two strikers look to close the show in a very violent manner.
