NJPW announces IWGP United States Championship, first champion to be determined in Long Beach, CA

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced the formation of the IWGP United States Championship, with the first champion to be crowned at NJPW’s G-! Special in the USA in Long Beach, CA on July 1st & 2nd, 2017.  Prior to tonight’s ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds pay-per-view event in New York City, NY at the Hammerstein Ballroom, a special ceremony took place hosted by ROH and NJPW commentator Kevin Kelly with officials from NJPW and ROH, including  NJPW United States Ambassador George Carroll to announce and unveil the new championship.

The first champion will be crowned during the NJPW G-! Special in the USA in Long Beach, CA weekend on July 1st and 2nd, 2017 in a Round Robin style tournament format that will take place over the course of the weekend’s events. The first participant announced for the tournament was Jay Lethal.

NJPW’s G-! Special in the USA in Long Beach, CA takes place on July 1st & 2nd at the Long Beach Convention Center, with both events starting at 5PM PST. Wrestlers already announced for these events include Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, and Hiroshi Tanahashi.
