AWS announces its first three shows for 2017

AWS is getting ready for their next show, “Just Another Damn Turkey” on November 26th in South Gate, but that didn’t stop them from announcing their first three dates for 2017. AWS promoter Bart Kapitzke announced AWS will be returning to American Legion Post #335 in South Gate on January 28, March 25, and May 27, 2017.

As announced yesterday, on January 27th RISE will be making their Southern California debut, and then the next night on January 28th AWS will present “Don’t Bring Your Replica Title to Our Show.” Already announced for the show is the AWS debut of Suede Thompson.

On March 25, 2017 AWS will hold a show celebrating their 15th anniversary. The Alternative Wrestling Shop started as booth at the Frank and Sons Collectible show, and was instrumental in introducing a lot of fans and wrestlers to videos of matches and wrestlers that weren’t otherwise available. Bart was instrumental in bringing wrestling to Frank and Sons, which is where Revolution Pro moved to in 2002. Also in 2002 Bart started the Alternative Wrestling Show, originally as a joint show with FMLL. AWS is currently the 4th longest running active promotion behind EWF,  WPW, and FMLL. Since its inception AWS has been an important part of the evolution of the Southern California wrestling scene, mixing lucha libre and American style wrestling leading to unique matchups you wouldn’t see anywhere else. AWS has also been at the forefront of promoting women’s wrestling in Southern California, holding women’s only shows and holding the first women’s wrestling tournaments in Southern California in decades. Which leads to the next show announcement…

On May 27, 2017 AWS will be bringing back their women’s wrestling tournament. They held their first women’s tournament in 2009, which was won by Candice LeRae. The tournament was last held in 2014.
