Jay Cal’s View #157

“You can’t please all the people all the time. Hell, you can’t please all of the people some of the time. Find the people that dig you and crush it for them” — Jay Mohr

Hall of Fame Nominations
Steve (c’mon you know Steve right?) surprised a lot of us at SoCalUNCENSORED and returned to our message boards to announce that there will be a Hall of Fame voting in 2016. I was a little surprised by the amount of active competitors who have been nominated that are still competing; B-Boy, Ballard Brothers (Shannon & Shane Ballard), Christopher Daniels, Joey Munoz (Kaos), John Cena, Kiss, Rey Misterio Jr., Sting, and Supreme. For the full list of nominations and how the voting process works, please visit [Southern California Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame] 2016 Call for Nominations

Southern California Wrestling Year End Awards
We’re still accepting nominations in many of the categories of our year end awards. We wish to include as many points of reference as humanly possible, please pass this information onto fans/wrestlers/promoters who may not visit this board on a regular basis. Please submit nominations for the following categories: Wrestler of the Year, Most Outstanding Wrestler (based solely on in-ring work), Tag-Team of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Promotion of the Year and Match of the Year. If you’d like to vote, you do have to register to vote on the message board.

Pacific Coast Wrestling
PCW began chronicling its path to this Saturday much longer than the oldest post on their facebook page that dates back to June 2015, although by my records they were posting about their desires as far back as April. All the way back in September I wrote about PCW’s and wondered if they were going to do something with the buzz they have created. Mike Hawes and Partners are responsible for creating PCW, some might remember Mike as the owner from 3PW on the East Coast and it feels the card feels a lot like a former NWA Florida promotion Pro Wrestling Fusion (which was ran by the Sheik.) PCW staff came up with a pretty interesting card, with very few talents coming from the West Coast on this event. Unfortunately Rix Luxury has already called off this event, he was slated to take on Graves in the opener. The Main Event is to be MVP taking on the Sheik. I’m not a big fan of the Sheik. I think he’s a better booker than a wrestler, however the Sheik did have a brief run as NWA World Champion. I totally expect MVP and The Sheik to have a very violent, malicious match. I’d be shocked if the match spent much time in the ring at all. The match you should all be looking foward too will be between two of the best athletes to wrestle from Southern California. The match up of Scorpio Sky vs. TJ Perkins will absolutely tear down the walls of the Oak Street Gym. The PCW Office is ambitious, which I think is good. They want to get their product out there, they want to do television. I definitely think this show is worth checking out and I would have probably gone, but I have other commitments that evening. Also, what happened to Doomsday? Their next event is scheduled for March 26th 2016 returning to Torrance.

Man In Black versus Him
I really don’t know what to call Gary Yap’s Man In Black, HIM, Silent Bob, whatever. All I know is that he had an epic 2015. I’m sure he’ll get some nominations for the Paul T. Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Wrestler maybe even Wrestler of the Year. His opponent, like I mentioned above is probably one of the most gifted athletes in Southern California in TJ Perkins.  Covina is going to be rocking tonight. Seriously this match is worth price of admission alone to EWF’s Old School Tonight. And should certainly be on your list of shows to go to this weekend. Other matches see The Wildsiderz (Dark Usagi and Andre Machievski) challenge EWF Tag Team Champions Andy Brown and Adrian Quest. And what should delight Lucha Fans, Archimedes versus Espiritu.

Loser Leaves Town Match
The last time I remember a Loser Leaves Town Match, where the loser in fact never returned to the promotion he left was Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce. The feud between Frankie “The Future” Kazarian and Pearce over the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Championship stretched from January until July. Once Pearce was gone, he never did return. The Rebel Renegades are dead. This weekend either Joe Gamble or Ju Dizz (both of whom should be considered for Rookie of the Year 2015) will be done in SoCal Pro Wrestling. There is a lot going on at SoCal Pro this weekend including Andy Brown and Adrain Quest returning the favor of challenging Usagi and Machievski for the SoCal Pro Tag Titles. Also the 2/3 Falls with SoCal Crazy defending his SoCal Pro Heavyweight Championship against Mike Camden.

PP3 Cup
The Percy Pringle III Cup was created to honor the legacy of Percy Pringle the 3rd (known around the world as WWE’s Paul Bearer. While in Hollywood Percy Pringle managed the duo of Natural Selection (Shaun Ricker & Bryan Cage) for a good chunk of their time as Heritage Tag Team Champions. Pringle was considered the manager of champions and as such this event, usually a tournament grants the winner the opportunity to challenge any title in CWFH. Previous PP3 Cup Winners have been Ryan Taylor,
Ricky Mandel (cashed in winning the PP3 Cup to defeat Scorpio Sky to become the Hollywood Heritage Champion) and YUMA (who also cashed in the PP3 Cup to become Heritage Champion, by defeating Hobo). Whomever wins the PP3 Cup will be able to pick for their choice of challenge Heritage Champion Avalon (who has been nominated for 2015 Most Outstanding Wrestler), United Television Champion “Main Event” James Moragan, or the United Tag Team Champions which are currently held by Cold Cold War.
