Jay Cal’s View #143

Lucha Underground Returns for a second season. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Gary Yap is offering up sage advice. (I feel dirty.) Three of the top ten most viewed stories of the past two years have to deal with the passing of Cincinnati Red, Joe Schmo, and The Drunken Irishman, what does that say about the readers of SCU? United Wrestling Network is offering a new wrestling program. All this plus this week’s upcoming events.

Lucha Underground
When once we last saw the Temple, a Riddler-esque question mark shinned a top the structure leading many to speculate about the pending debut of Lucha Libre Superstar and former WWE World Champion Rey Misterio. Or it could have been a likely indicator that even the writing staff didn’t exactly knew what the future was to hold. Regardless the show that captivated a nation is set to return for a second season airing in early 2016, it was announced via the LuchaUnderground Twitter.. The original plan was to begin taping again in September of 2015, however after hitting a few snags, it is rumored that taping will start up in December. The current Underground Champions are; Mil Muertes who defeatd Prince Puma to become the Lucha Underground Champion, Gift of the Gods Champion Fenix, who won a seven-way match to become the Inagural Champion and the Disciples of Death (Barrior Negro, El Siniestro de la Muerte, and Trece who defeated Angelico, Ivelisse, and Son of Havoc. Will Rey Misterio be heading to the temple? Will Prince Puma return to the Underground? Will Cage tear another belt in half? The answers to all of this and more will be answered soon, make sure you stay tuned to SoCalUNCENSORED as we’ll have news of when the tickets will be available for order.

“Did you ever think you’d see the day Jesse Hernandez tweeted a Gary Yap video?”
The Video in question was in fact Gary Yap’s Guide to Being the BEST in SoCal It all started so innocently. But nearly one year ago, Gary Yap prophetic decreed how to become the very best in professional wrestling in between drags of a cigarette. In that short amount of time Gary has taken his Man In Black, a veritable unknown… he doesn’t even have a name for Christ sake. Gary spent two hours with talking to EWF Play By Play and webmaster of Ringscoops, Wade Needham about his start in wrestling, what it takes to be a success in Southern California and basically lays out some knowledge that really is a must listen. “In my opinion if you’re a professional wrestler… and it is your desire is to take your art form to another level, by another level I mean moving on to other things, bigger platforms. In my opinion there are three companies to work for in Southern California and only three… The Empire Wrestling Federation, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, are the three companies that if you want to take your art form to the next level and if you are not in bed or working for those three companies… you are spinning your wheels.” Gary spends much of the next two hours being very self deprecating, brutally honest, and given wise advice about wrestling in Southern California. Personally I would have liked to have heard Gary speak more to his involvement wrestling in the Pacific Northwest, more about the trials and tribulations of Epic/Pro Wrestling War… maybe a sit down with Jay Cal in the future is in order and Gary, I’ve grabbed a few boobs in my life.

The Man In Black defends his Empire Wrestling Federation Championship tonight against Brandon Gatson.

Remembering the Fallen
Wednesday the friends and family of James Prentice, more affectionately known as the Drunken Irishman, came together to say good bye and lay him to rest the at the Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, California.  A loving father of two and husband was still very passionate about wrestling from his days at UPW and even recently working at Knoxk Pro.  His passing marks the 5th of wrestling brethren who passed this year in SoCal.  Nearly 5,000 clicks on this website were to read about the passing of Cincinnati RedJoe Schmo, and the Drunken Irish.  It speaks volume of the lasting impact that these men had on then people they worked with and the people they entertained.

United Wrestling Network
Did you know KDOC-TV is moving the show to Saturdays at 4PM starting this Saturday.  You can gear up for the next show you attend by watching CWFH before you head out.  This week’s episode 227 (airing on September 27th) features Bateman competing against the Hobo, Big Duke versus Carlo “Cashmoney” Cannon, the unlikely pairing of CWFH Hollywood Heritage Champion “Pretty” Peter Avalon and Jervis Cottonbelly squaring off against Vermin Members Joey Ryan and Kevin Martenson.  And in the Main Event the finals of the 2015 Summer Classic, James Morgan and Ryan Taylor go toe to toe for the UWN Television Championship.  Of course if you’re subscribed to the UWN streaming service powered by Patreon you can watch CWFH on your schedule with nearly 60 hours of wrestling content and the most current episodes being uploaded weekly.  New this week, from the David Marquez Wrestling Vault was the first episode of SECW, a show that was produced by Marquez that would have been the sister promotion for CWFH.  The original plan was to have shared talent and even to crown a United Wrestling Network World Tag Team Champions, in Tennessee that would have defended across the country.  There are also the few matches that have never aired on the CWFH Television Program; RockNES Monsters defending the Hollywood Heritage Tag Titles against Natural Selection with Percy Pringle III and Los Luchas, Daniel Bryan vs. Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, AJ Styles vs. Trent Barretta, and Chase Stevens & Andy Douglas (The Naturals) taking on Romeo Roseli & Antonio Thomas (The Heart Throbs).   It’s perfect for those of us who do not have access KDOC-TV or YouToo America.
