I need to get a few things off my chest…

What kind of a man hits a woman?
Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten. My jaw literally hung open in disbelief. As a father of three beautiful daughters, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. One of my greatest fears as a father is that one day one of my daughters will find themselves in an abusive relationship. In the world of professional wrestling the line has always been blurred between what is real and what is fantasy. The Dudley’s putting Mae Young or Stacy Kiebler through a table, Stone Cold giving Stephanie a stunner, Joey Ryan’s Boobplex, or even Raze’s up-coming inter-gender matches for Santino’s and AWS… all fine examples of the art of wrestling, these are trained professionals. There is an extreme difference between what happens in the ring and what happens outside of the ring. This brings me to my point, “Nobody is above an ass whooping…?” What the fuck did I just read? A self proclaimed man of Christ not only condoning hitting a woman, but essentially bragging about this act of violence? His name is Killa Gorilla, he’s the kind of man who hits a woman. Via Facebook he celebrated Christy Mack(the former Adult Entertainer) being beaten to an inch of her life and repeatedly raped by her ex boyfriend Jon Koppenhaver aka Warmachine. She’s had to have reconstructive surgery and had several broken bones. Killa Gorilla said, “Bitch shouldn’t have lied.” I literally felt sick. My initial reaction was to hate Killa Gorilla, but after thinking about this for a few days, I feel sorry for him. He didn’t have the role models to teach him that it isn’t ever okay to hit a woman. I couldn’t imagine what horror he has seen to give him such a skewed look at life. I’m scared for what his own children have seen, “Men who as children witnessed their parents’ domestic violence were twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents.”

As far as I’m concerned Killa Gorilla can be the 2015 version of Chippy Sanchez. Such heinous actions shouldn’t be ignored. I personally will not support any wrestling promotion that continues to use Killa Gorilla. I’d like to urge those who have been victims of domestic violence to please seek help… call 1-800-799-7233 or visit www.thehotline.org for help. For John… seek help man.

New Champions Crowned
Folks who were in Covina for the Empire Wrestling Federation last week got an extra special treat, depending on whether you like Gary Yap’s MIB. If you do… kudos, because you not only saw HIM defeat “Up Town” Andy Brown, but you also saw him defeat the “Iron Man” Mike Maze.  In Santa Maria this weekend for Vendetta Pro Wrestling, Sunami won the Vendetta Pro Tri-Force Championshing when he defeated Jeckles The Jester and El Chupacabra, by pinning Jeckles, the former champion.  Ricky Ruffin regained the “Underground Champion” by defeating Alexander G. Bernard, T-Lo the Insano and “Apostle” Judah Mathew in an Open Challenge Four Way Elimination match.  And the Classic Connection now hold claim to 5 unified tag team championships, winning the NWA Western States Tag Team title along with the Apex Pro Tag Team title in a Tag Team Triangle Tag match, defeating The Ballards and The Von Dooms. They put up their APW Universal Tag Team title, PCW Tag Team title, and FCW-LA Tag Team title, retaining all three.

Notes from the Chris DeJoseph Wrestling Guy Store Appearnce
Todd Fulkerson sent this along and asked if I would share.
I had a great time meeting Chris DeJoseph at The Wrestling Guy Store in Huntington Park, CA. He did a Q&A with fans for an hour and fourty five minutes, signed photos, and took pictures with fans. He talked about his WWE days, as well as in depth about Lucha Underground. The full Q&A can be watched here https://youtu.be/O7bGwVRYeYM

Be wary of ERA Wrestling in Las Vegas
I posted recently on the SoCalUncensored facebook page about ERA Wrestling in Las Vegas. Now, I know this site is dedicated to SoCal, but I thought I should give a precautionary tale about an area to our East. The promoters of ERA Wrestling in Las Vegas contacted SoCal wrestlers with regards to working their most recent show. Getting exposure in another state is usually a great experience and sometimes can open up new doors, however this wasn’t the case. Talent from SoCal, Utah, and even Vegas locals were stiffed on pay that night. The card’s main attraction was a match of Joey Ryan taking on Matt Cross for the ERA Championship Title. In SoCal you could imagine that would be quite a draw, however in Vegas, it was reported about 40 people showed up to the event with about half being comps.

This entire fiasco seemed like a vanity project for the promoter/wrestler Justyn Michael who oddly enough won his match and got in the ring with Cross after his title victory against Ryan. That night the talent (including those from out of state) were given the option of waiting several hours to get paid or that they would be PayPal’ed later in the night. According to one wrestler, nobody was paid on the spot since, according to Justyn, “We didn’t draw as we had hoped.” In seeking their pay, after a series of arguments, accusations, false promises, and flat out lies, Extreme Ring Action blocked at least two of the wrestlers who had been contacting them for their promised pay. Eventually, for those two that were blocked, payment was received 4 days after the show upon ERA’s knowledge that a suit was being filed with small claims court. This is only part of the shenanigans you would hope that in 2015 aren’t still happening in wrestling, but unfortunately are.
I would advise any SoCal talent to stay away from this promotion as there is a good chance you too could get stiffed on pay. And as for SoCal fans, with lot better offers in Vegas, perhaps go to the FSW, Paragon Pro, or even Big Valley Wrestling. Las Vegas is developing quite an interesting scene and it is unfortunate that garbage promotions are already turning up to sour the area.
