[REVIEW] Lucha Underground Primier October 29th 2014

On Wednesday, October 29th we saw the long awaited debut Lucha Underground sept-oct 2014 flyer 2Lucha Underground on the El Rey Channel.

The show started with the history of Lucha Libre talking about the 7 tribes which was a nice way to open the show. Plus you saw the Owner of Lucha Underground Dario Cueto come to AAA TripleMania to invite Luchadors to fight for him was a nice twist too. The commentators for the event is Former WWE Star Matt Striker & Lucha Legend Vampiro as they’ll do the play by play.

The show starts with the Owner Dario Cueto coming out & talking about how his vision of Lucha Underground will be different as his temple will honor the lucha traditions of honor, respect and his personal favorite, violence. He also had a briefcase & said that the Luchador that impressed him the most will receive $100,000 dollars as a bonus tonight.

Blue Demon Jr. def Chavo Guerrero Jr via Submission

We see Cueto talking to Lucha Legend Konnan in his office as Cueto talks about Johnny Mundo & how he wants someone to defeat him. Konnan says about his protege Prince Puma being here from Boyle Heights & he has what it takes to defeat Mundo. Cueto says if he’s right the money will go to Puma & him.

Son of Havoc def Sexy Star w/a backbreaker & pulling of the tights for the victory.
(Prior to match, we saw a vignette of Sexy Star so the fans can get to know the luchador).

We see Chavo Guerrero in the back as Cueto comes out from a dark entrance talking to him about his loss to Blue Demon Jr. Cueto saying that he had the chance to retire Demon but instead just “Tapped Out” & now since Chavo couldn’t get the job done, he’ll have to bring in someone who can.

Main Event:
Johnny Mundo (FKA John Morrison) def Prince Puma with “End of the World” (Starship Pain) Finisher.
Afterward, As Mundo & Puma showed respect Dario Cueto came to the ring & said that Mundo won the bonus but Mundo & Puma were attacked by Cueto’s enforcers Cisco and Cortez Castro & Big Ryck (FKA Ezekiel Jackson) as all men stood in the ring & Cueto said, “Welcome to Lucha Underground” as the show went off the air.

The Primer episode of Lucha Underground in my opinion didn’t disappoint the fans. I thought this new concept for a show is pretty good. When you watch the show, it does have a Wrestling Society X feel to it. From what I’ve heard from fans who attended the show, the matches may have been edited for TV since they said it seemed longer when they saw it LIVE but overall I think the show will do well.

One thing we’ll have to get use to is the new persona’s each star will take on since we’ve known them by another name like Johnny Mundo, Prince Puma, Son of Havoc & Cueto’s Crew. Yes, we do know who they are but I don’t think change in persona will hurt the product. With performances from what we saw on TV, I think Lucha Underground will have a bright future.

Match of the night goes to Johnny Mundo vs Prince Puma

I have my DVR set to record Lucha Underground each week & I’m ready to see what mayhem will unfold throughout this season. I know many of you from So Cal attended the tapings & have more of an idea of what is going on but as a fan, I’m ready to watch some wrestling. Cudos to Lucha Underground, to everyone working the show & here’s hoping for Season Two in the new year.

Until Next time, this is Mike Draven & I’ll see you at Ringside!
