Recap of IWL Wreck the Halls 3: Wreck the World

Shot of the Night - IWL -12-21-12

This Chaos Column is a recap of Insane Wrestling League’s Wreck the Halls 3: Wreck the World, at the American Legion Post #299, Chino. The world may not have been wrecked by the Mayan Doomsday Prophecies, but most of the world did take advantage of the free iPPV offer for this show to watch the wrestlers wreck each other in front of a large crowd–some of whom brought unwrapped toys for the toy drive–

P – 9-man Battle Royal, w/ the last 2 standing to compete for the inaugural IWL Breakout Championship. Competitors: Tyler Durken, Che Cabrera, Simon Lotto, Leo Blaze, Steven Andrews, Riki De La Paz, Josh Rozay, Kyle Webb, & Joseph Knox. Both members of Fresh 2 Death–first Josh Rozay, then Leo Blaze–were thrown out, followed by both members of Ground Zero–Riki De La Paz, then Joseph Knox. Tyler Durken was the next one to be thrown out, then Simon Lotto threw out Kyle Webb, while Steven Andrews threw out Che Cabrera. That leaves the two former members of Team High Risk–Simon Lotto & Steven Andrews–to battle it out for the IWL Breakout Championship on 2/22/13.

1 – Magnum Pro Wrestling Showcase Match: Kid Caramba p. Ryan Kidd w/ what looked like a Michinoku Driver from the top rope.

2 – Chris Evans p. Raze (w/ Tyler Bateman) w/ the Spinning Neckbreaker. Chris Evans tried to get Tyler Bateman to leave ringside, but Tyler didn’t interfere. However, Chris did had to earn the win, as he got his left knee picked apart by a pair of submission holds from Raze.

3 – Justin Ryke rolled up & p. Eric Watts (w/ Christian Cole) in a strong, even match. This setback would prove to be the least of Christian Cole’s worries.

4 – Eric Cross rolled up & p. Johnny Yuma after “playing possum” when he ate the Sex Factor on the apron and tumbled to the floor, causing referees Justin Borden & Jason McCord to check on him.

5 – Willie Mack & Famous B def. The Mixtape Kings (Jerome “LTP” Robinson & Jacob Diez, w/ Christian Cole) when Famous B p. Jacob Diez w/ a combination of Willie Mack’s Chocolate Thunderbomb, followed by B’s “I Believe I Can Fly” Swanton Bomb. Christian Cole tried to cool things down, especially when Eric Watts came to the ring, only to receive a Chokeslam from Watts.

6 – After intermission, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) successfully defended the IWL Tag Team Championship, beating Scorpio Sky & T.J. Perkins when Matt Jackson countered TJP’s attempt to slide underneath him, to sit on him for the pin. Great tag team action.

SM – Anarchy Rules match for the IWL Anarchy Championship between Ray (Rrrrrrrrrrr)Rosas & Drake Younger. 1 plastic chair, 1 seemingly worn out trash can, & 1 cinder block were used in this No-DQ, No-CountOut match. Both men put the hurting on each other, especially when the chair broke apart, & the trash can got torn apart. Even though Ray Rosas seemingly got a significant laceration on his back–either from a sharp, dented edge of the trash can, or a sharp, broken metallic piece of the chair–he managed to hit his German Suplex onto the chair & trash can to get the pin & another successful title defense. Eric Cross & Ray Rosas unloaded on Drake Younger afterwards, only to be run off by B-Boy to set up a tag team match on 2/22/13. Match of the night.

M – Four-Way, 1-fall match for the IWL Heavyweight Championship between Johnny Saovi, Chris Kadillak, B-Boy, & Tyler Bateman (w/ Raze). Plenty of great action here, which ended when Johnny Saovi hit his version of the Code Red or Canadian Destroyer–a “Hyrulean Destroyer”, perhaps–on B-Boy to retain. Chris Kadillak obviously wasn’t happy in the end, as he ambushed Johnny Saovi later, and a handful of wrestlers & security staff, plus a private paramedic, had to break things up.

In all, this was a huge year for the IWL, as Vic Luna booked some major indie talents, and set up some fantastic matches throughout the year to draw large crowds–especially at Last August’s “New Era 7”. The free iPPV of this show helped get it to trend worldwide on Twitter. So what’s in store for 2013? Only time will tell.
