Chaos Column: Recap of DCW’s “Round 1 Tag Team Tourny” Jan. 21st

(DCW 1/21/12) Msg. to Thunderkitty: Payback is a b****, isn't it? NY Knockout Nikki & Morgan definitely got some after their shortcoming last October in Newhall w/ the Bump & Grind team finisher.

BTWNCHAOSNORDER’S gives a recap of 1/21/12 Dungeon Championship Wrestling’s Round 1 of The Tag Team Tournament.   Despite the cold & the wind chill brought on by a rainstorm that had passed through So Cal overnight, a good crowd was on hand for a ladies grudge match, and Round 1 of the Tag Team Title Tournament, where 12 teams were looking to advance to the next round in March, and get one step closer to becoming DCW’s inagural tag team champions. I opted for this show over the EWF show in San Bernardino, in which “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Sr., made a special appearance, for the variety of talents that were on hand for this show, including one luchador stable that I haven’t seen in action since June 2010.

1 – Ryan Kidd & Lovin’ Nick Lovin d. Spectre & Kid Tanaka(?). Ryan & Nick interrupted the singing of the national anthem, much to the dismay of the fans & members of the legion post. Fortunately for them, Spectre & Kid Tanaka had a falling out after Kid Tanaka did an apparent blind tag. That led to Ryan & Nick to hit a pair of “Eat the Feet” to Kid Tanaka, w/ Nick Lovin scoring the pin.

2 – K-Dubb & Fern Owen d. Mario Banks & Remy St. Clair, his mystery partner. Seemed like K-Dubb & Fern Owen were the lesser of the heels in this match, so they got quite the babyface treatment. Things were fairly even in this match, but then Mario Banks’ ego got in the way, which drew the ire of Remy St. Clair, who left him hanging to dry, and at the mercy of a Suplex/Powerbomb team combo finisher, w/ Fern Owen scoring the pin.

3 – “Team MPW” (New MPW Heavyweight Champion Brawlin’ Bo Cooper & MPW Maximum Champion Lethal Logan X) d. Midnight Delight (Billy Blade & Sean Casey). Even match, complete w/ a classic Billy Blade hard chop that echoed throughout the hall. The MPW singles champions got the upper hand late when Bo Cooper hit a big Fireman’s Carry slam on Billy Blade, to leave him open for a Logan X top rope finisher–kinda looked like a 270 Rolling Senton to me–for the pin. Crowd were really hot for the winning duo.

4 – The L.A. F’ers (Shamu Jr. & Dr. Maldad, who subbed for Piloto Suicida) d. Tito Escondido & Robbie Phoenix. What this match lacked in classic comedy from the L.A. F’ers–since Piloto Suicida wasn’t here–was compensated by the great lucha libre action, complete w/ a daring top rope move by Tito Escondido on Shamu Jr., onto a narrow aisle w/ a counter at the far end. Match ended when Dr. Maldad hit a big powerbomb on Robbie Phoenix for the pin. Almost a piece of cake for the big, masked luchadores.

5 – After intermission, the ladies had their grudge match, so to speak. Michelle Morgan (w/ “The NY Knockout” Nikki) p. Thunderkitty w/ the Samoan Drop, taking advantage of the distraction from Nikki. Obviously, this was payback 3 months in the making, when Thunderkitty was a biased special guest referee who favored The Dangerous Angels (Allison Danger & Sara Del Rey) over the Bump N Grind duo of Morgan & Nikki last October. That being said, it was only fitting that Nikki & Morgan nailed Thunderkitty after the bell w/ their Samoan Drop/Boot to the Face team finisher.

SM – Ultimo Shamu & Dragon Mask d. SoCal Crazy & Blood Eagle. Strong lucha libre match that saw plenty of high-flying lucha libre action. Ultimo Shamu was able to land a Mule Kick on Blood Eagle behind the referee’s back, then hit an elevated Modified Stunner off an inverted Chokeslam hold on SoCal Crazy, leaving him open for a Dragon Mask Frog Splash for the pin.

M – Phoenix Star & “The NY Knockout” Nikki (who subbed for an injured Zokre) d. DCW Heavyweight Champion Famous B & Brian Cage. Great, even match that saw Nikki take plenty of punishment from the men, and dish out some moves of her own. The winning duo were able to rollup their opponents for a double-pinfall after Famous B accidentally went for his Flashing Lights superkick that landed on Brian Cage’s chin, instead of Phoenix Star’s own. Obviously, Famous B & Brian Cage had quite the argument, and a brief brawl at the end. You can be sure those two will have quite the grudge when the DCW Heavyweight Championship is likely to be on the line in March. Slim choice for my match of the night.
