Jay Cal’s View #35

Another edition of Jay Cal’s View, glad to be back on the new and improved SoCalUNCESORED.  Take a look around and get comfy.  Breaking news from the WWE, we finally announced the 2010 award winners, TJ Perkin’s might answer your questions,  WPW is back, and a new direction for Battleground Pro Wrestling.  Plus a run down of the shows happening this weekend.

5 Wrestlers Cut from the WWE

The WWE released five talents today and word is more talents are being released. Of the five talents who were released today two of them broke into the business right here in our backyards. Melina and “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters both were released today. One of the most viewed items on this website is when Melina first signed with the WWE (here).  She started her career in EWF and later went on to work with UPW.

TJ Perkins answers your questions

One of my new favorite things I’ve discovered recently is the TJ Perkins formspring account. TJ is very candid in his responses and it’s a very interesting look at one of the youngest veterans in the business today. TJ doesn’t stray from controversy as he speaks about steroids in the business, coming up in the New Japan dojo, working in CMLL, and his experiences with ROH, TNA, PWG, CMLL, NJPW, and even his time in WWE development. I can’t recommend checking it out enough.

WPW Training Facility

Sometimes I wonder how many new readers even know about World Power Wrestling. There was a point in time long before PWG or a Mach-1 Wrestling, there was WPW. WPW along with EWF were two of the longest consecutively running wrestling promotions in the area. EWF focusing more on the American Style of wrestling and WPW was Lucha Libre in SoCal for many years. I remember reading over Tom’s Walters reviews and photos over at the old SoCal-Wrestling.com. I thought WPW had closed shop. But recently perusing the SuperLuchas.net online magazine, I saw that the school had re-opened. It has been endorsed by Dr. Wagner as well. If you are looking for options in your lucha libre/professional wrestling development, you might want to consider WPW.

Changes at BPW

There have been some changes in the front office for Battleground Pro Wrestling. The Step Daddy has quietly stepped down into semi-retirement. Step Daddy added that he’ll only be doing the occasional wrestling match with the Stepchild. Peter Villiano has taken over much of the vacant duties. I always appreciated Step Daddy’s candor and creativity, wish him well in his semi retirement and hope to see him at the show. I don’t know if it was a philosophical change, but I like the direction BPW is heading.

B-Boy returns to BPW

It was a year ago I interview B-Boy for the site and he was excited to be back in SoCal hoping to make an impact like before he had left. Unfortunately the bookings that B-Boy had hoped for hadn’t come in. B-Boy had gotten a few days with SoCal Pro (with Angel Santos which was pretty awesome) and some matches in New Wave. It now appears people are starting to realize B-Boy is here and available for bookings. Battleground is bringing in B-Boy for their next show as he will be taking on Famous B and “Pretty” Peter Avalon. Both of his opponents have been growing quite the reputation, both in NWA Hollywood and elsewhere. I exchanged a few messages with B-Boy this past week and he said, “The dates are starting to come in. On the 20th I’m taking on Ric Ellis for WCWC. And I’ll be working with Chris Kadilack at the next New Wave show.” Personally I hope to see B-Boy get more upcoming dates. I have never seen a bad B-Boy match and I think he could really be a shot in the arm for the newer crops of wrestlers in the area looking to get the next level of opponents.
