Jay Cal’s View #33

This week, I take a look at the CM Punk promo from Monday Night.  Could one single promo kick start wrestling?  Did you hear Adam Pearce is coming back to the ring after his injury in NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. Congrats to LCW for breaking new ground here in SoCal, Battleground Pro wants your feedback, and who is the next big thing in SoCal?  Also we’ll tell you how to stay home and still watch wrestling from SoCal on Friday Night.  Plus Willie Mack is in my spotlight and all of the upcoming matches for the weekend.

CM Punk Rules The World

I don’t normally speak about the going-ons of the WWE, there are a ton of websites out there who do it much better than I could, mostly because I don’t watch it. But as many of you saw on Monday, there was something that got me to search the internet for the promo that shocked the world. It wasn’t too hard to find. When I saw this video a total of 37 people had watched it. As I am writing this, that number is now over 400,000.

@JCLayfield “CM Punk’s promo-shoot or work? Who cares? When you are so good that you can put that doubt in viewers minds you have done your job very well”

@steveaustinBSR “CM Punk just melted my 52 inch TV with a scorching hot promo…delivery, content, and attitude…one of the best promos I’ve ever seen.”

Besides wrestling sites all over the web going nuts with this, even respectable media members, like Jim Rome were talking about it. Not sure where it leaves the WWE as they have “suspended” CM Punk, but have also made the video available on-line. Punk has always been entertaining, even dating to his days on commentary for njpw/USA or his days working in PWG, but this was incredible.

One Last Ride
As some of you may know my side project is alliance-wrestling.com.  I try not to plug my site in every Jay Cal’s View, but Sunday I conducted an interview with “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce.  Pearce was very open about the injuries he sustained and has re-committed to have One Last Ride, being very candid that his in-ring wrestling career is coming to an end.  Although no timetable has been established, he is winding down.  If you’d care to listen to the podcast with the influential Pearce, please click here.

Did LCW host the first iPPV in SoCal?
I want to send congratulations to the Santino Bros. and Legion Championship Wrestling. This past weekend they hosted a series of Death Matches mixed in with regular LCW action to present Ignition, which was taped for iPPV. You can order the event for $9.99 and watch it from the comfort of your home from Go Fight Live. I believe this to be the first iPPV in Los Angeles. Hopefully this will lead to more promotions using this format to put their shows out there. Thanks to btwnchaosnorder and his Chaos Column for detailed results.

Who is the next big thing?
Indyfed follower from our message board recently posed the question as to “Who Do You Want To See Get a Shot in PWG” I think that’s a great question, as many of you use Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as the Measuring Stick here in SoCal.  There are so many great talents still not in PWG that it is hard to narrow it down, but if I had to say one name, its going to be Famous B.  With all respect to guys like SoCal Crazy, Jaysin Strife, Ray Rosas and Nick Madrid, I really think Famous B is at that next level and could fit in very well with PWG.  That’s just my opinion, who is yours.

Vote for Battleground

This could be an interesting tool for BPW, to compare what their live fans vs. their on-line fans judge the product and going forward identifying what the fans of their shows really want to see. Spotlight: Willie Mack

Willie Mack in NWA Hollywood

When you look at a guy like Willie Mack, a lot of times it’s just easy to step back and be amazed.  As “Chocolate Caliente” has become an integral part of Lucha Va Voom, Mack also competes regularly for the top promotions in Southern California, like PWG, can be seen weekly at Mach-1 Wrestling and on television with NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. Mack has even recently been making the road trips to Arizona to compete for EXW.  Surely the Willie Mack Brand has been reaching out, even showing up on Pay Per View for the Urban Wrestling Federation.  Willie Mack recently announced on his twitter he’ll be appearing in Germany for wXw.  Westside Extreme Wrestling is based out of Oberhausen Germany and has partnered with many American based wrestling promotions most notably PWG and Combat Zone Wrestling.  When I spoke with Willie Mack on my podcast (nearly a year ago) he expressed then that he had ambitions to see the world wrestling, specifying Australia.  Willie Mack’s departure to Germany will see him miss some time from both Mach-1 and NWA Hollywood.  But we here at SoCalUNCENSORED wish Willie Mack safe journeys and a great time.
