SoCal News and Notes – May 12th, 2004

After a week off due to vacation, News and Notes returns with info on WWE, B-Boy to ROH, UPW, and the possible return of a huge star to SoCal (sorta). For this week’s edition, click below.-B-Boy has been added to Ring of Honor’s July 17th afternoon show in Elizabeth, NJ. His opponent has yet to be announced.

-KCAL’s “Night Out On The Town” filmed some segments at May 5th’s Revolution X show that will air on their Monday, May 17th show at 6:00 PM.

-Eddie Guerrero and John Cena will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch this Friday May 14th at Dodgers Stadium, just before the Dodgers play the Cincinnati Reds. The game begins at 7:10 p.m.

-On May 17th Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Shelton Benjamin, Victoria, and The Hurricane will be participating in a “Smackdown Your Vote!” press conference beginning at 2 p.m. at the San Diego Sports Arena. They will be joined by Republican National Committee Chariman Ed Gillespie, who will announce that the Republican Party is joining “Smackdown Your Vote!” in its efforts to register new voters.

-The New Japan Pro Wrestling “Best of the Super Juniors” starts on May 22nd and will feature both American Dragon and Rocky Romero. We will be posting results in this column and following both guys.

-UPW will be holding their first TV tapings for their “Overload” TV show that will be airing nationally this fall, on July 24th and July 31st. July 24th’s show will be at the Gotham Nightclub in San Bernardino and July 31st’s show will be at the Grove in Anaheim.

-UPW will also have a booth at May 15th’s WWE show in San Bernardino. Actually, May 15th will be a busy day for UPW all around with Al Katrazz, Oliver John, Tommy Wilson, Tony Stradlin, Outlaw Derrick Neikirk, Ma’koa, Rick Bassman and Sabbath all in Japan. A Mat Wars show in El Segundo, and a booth at the WWE show.

-May 16th’s Zero One show at Korakuen Hall in Japan will feature Yoshiyuki Nakamura vs. Rick Bassman.

-FMLL will be running in San Jose on July 18th with Santo, Blue Demon, La Parka, Dr. Wagner, Psicosis, and more.

-Disco Machine and Mr. Excitement are back in SoCal after their tour in Osaka Pro.

-Jerry “The King” Lawler will be at the House of Blues in Hollywood on May 16th waiting for Andy Kaufman to show up. Andy Kaufman told people that if he ever faked his death he’d return 20 years to the day, which will be May 16th, so his friends will be at the House of Blues waiting for him. The event is open to the public (for a price of course) and will feature comedians Rodney Dangerfield, Caroline Rhea, Bob Oedenkirk, Andy Dick, among others performing. Can you imagine if he actually did show up?

Special thanks to Mike Informer.
