SoCal News & Notes – April 19th, 2004

Today’s update has notes from last weekend’s shows, upcoming shows in SoCal, and SoCalers in Japan. Click below for today’s edition of SoCal News & Notes.

-Teddy Hart wasn’t booked on Saturday’s PWG show until shortly before the show began, and Hart said he was too sore from wrestling Ricky Reyes the night before to wrestle at PWG, which is why Lit and Deranged who came out to SoCal with Hart were in the match with Hardkore Kidd. Hart’s comments challenging Super Dragon to a match were not planned by PWG, and that match isn’t currently in the works, though these things can change.

-Messiah missed the PWG show reportedly due to car trouble.

-Samoa Joe is not scheduled for May’s PWG show as he is booked for Ring of Honor in Philadelphia, PA that day. As announced at Saturday’s PWG show, American Dragon also will not be on the show as he will be in Japan competing in the Best of the Super Juniors for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

-Antonio Inoki was at April 16th’s Inoki Dojo show, though he did not make a public appearance. From all accounts he was very impressed with the show.

-Vampiro will not be appearing on the May 1st AWS show in City of Industry for his scheduled match with Nosawa due to CMLL bookings. AWS will be announcing his replacement soon.

-Speaking of AWS their TV is set to start airing soon (maybe this week?). I know it will be on Adelphia Cable in Los Angeles, and once I have days and times I will post the info on SCU.

-Under Pressure has been stripped of the EWF tag-team title due to booking conflicts with other promotions. There will be a battle royal at EWF’s April 23rd show to determine who will replace him as Rudy Luna’s partner and ½ of the EWF tag-team champions.

-UPW will be running a show May 1st in Torrance at the Ken Miller Recreation Center. To get more information on the show check out the upcoming events section.

-Bo Cooper’s ear injury that was reported in the last SoCal News & Notes has turned out to be a broken eardrum. He missed an APW in Northern California, and an EWF booking due to the injury, but still plans on making all of his upcoming bookings.

-Revolution Pro will be running a free show in conjunction with San Pedro’s 4th Annual Youth Street Scene on April 24th at 1:00 PM. For more info on the show check out the SCU upcoming events section.

-Tickets for May 15th’s WWE Smackdown house show at Coussoulis Arena at Cal State San Bernardino go on sale April 24th at 10:00 AM.

-Pinoy Boy and Chad Wicks are off to a hot start in New Japan’s Young Lions Cup. Pinoy Boy and Chad went to a draw to earn one point a piece on April 17th’s show in Beppu and on April 19th’s show in Kagoshima, Pinoy Boy defeated Naofumi Yamamoto and Chad Wicks defeated Hiroshi Nagao to earn two points each. Current New Japan Young Lions Cup standings are as follows:

1. Ryusuke Taguchi [4]
2. Pinoi Boy [3]
3. Chad Wicks [3]
4. Naofumi Yamamoto [2]
5. Hirooki Goto [2]
6. Kazuya Yuasa [2]
7. Akiya Anzawa [0]
8. Hiroshi Nagao [0]

-American Dragon has been added to the May 3rd New Japan show at the Tokyo Dome. He will be in a six-man tag teaming with Koji Kanemoto and an unannounced partner facing Heat, Tiger Mask, and Naomichi Marufuji.
