UPW Weekly Wire 2/20/04

“Overload” rocks The Grove Friday Night!

Well, its hard to believe, but UPW’s biggest show ever is only 1 day away! Ultimate Pro Wrestling is set to celebrate its 5th Anniversary in style by delivering an “Overload” of action and entertainment. The spectacular will boast 9 Huge matches featuring UPW’s finest as well as some of the biggest stars ever to step into the squared circle. There will also be some very special celebrity guests on hand to take part in the festivities. One of the guests, Joe Millionaire’s Evan Marriott, will get involved in the action as he steps into the ring to lay down the law as the special referee in the evening’s Main Event.Speaking of the Main Event, they don’t get any bigger than this! The Outsiders, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash will join forces for the first time in nearly two years. The destructive duo has laid waste to anyone in there path and looks to do the same here in UPW. Out to defend the honor and future of Ultimate Pro Wrestling will be two of its greatest performers and Champions, current UPW Heavyweight Champion Tom Howard, and former two-time UPW Heavyweight Champion “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels.

UPW Owner Rick Bassman will also be out to defend the honor and future of the company as he takes on crooked UPW Commissioner, Pete Doyle. This promises to be a bitter and brutal battle as Bassman seeks revenge on the individual who betrayed him as well as the UPW fans. The stakes will be high as the winner of this No Disqualification brawl will obtain 100% control of UPW.

Speaking of “high”, the UPW Tag Team Titles will be high in the air, as feuding factions Hardkore Inc. and The Ballard Brothers finally settle the score in UPW’s first ever Table, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) Match. This epic battle will be the climax of a fiercely competitive rivalry which has raged over the past year. The stipulations of this match certainly seem to favor the current Champions. Hardkore Inc. should flourish in this anything goes environment. Expect them to pull out all the stops to hang on to the Titles as rumor has it that they recently secured some form of endorsement deal. On the other hand, The Ballard Brothers are hell bent on giving Hardkore Kidd and Al Katrazz a taste of their own medicine en route to winning the coveted gold for an unprecedented 9th time.

In what looks to be another wild encounter with Championship gold on the line, “The Future” Frankie Kazarian will defend his UPW Lightweight Title against three hungry and talented competitors in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match. His list of challengers include former UPW Champion “Miracle” Mikey Henderson, former WWE Light Heavyweight Champion, ECW Champion, and NWA-TNA X-Division and Tag Team Champion Jerry Lynn, and former WCW Cruiserweight and Hardcore Champion Evan Karagias. As is obvious, none of these guys are strangers to having gold around their waste. Who will out wit, out wrestle, and out fight the others to walk away with the UPW Lightweight Title? You might want to call air traffic control, because there will be a whole lot of high flying going on in this one!

In yet another UPW Title match, Erica Porter puts her Women’s Championship on the line against her toughest challenge to date. Erica will get it on with none other than former WWE Women’s Champion, Ivory. Erica is out to prove that she is the real deal. Ivory looks to illustrate why she is one of WWE’s toughest and most decorated Divas ever. On hand as the special guest ring announcer for this match will be WWE’s Justin Roberts.

UFC’s Bruce Buffer will also fill the role of ring announcer to introduce the participants in a battle to determine who is “The Most Dangerous Man”. The legendary Ken Shamrock returns to action to take on the first ever UPW Heavyweight Champion, Sylvester “Predator” Terkay. Shamrock is a UFC Hall of Famer as well as a former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion. He defends his legacy against a monstrous former NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling National Champion who recently made his K-1 debut by knocking his opponent out in a mere 13 seconds. There will be a lot of pride and bragging rights on the line when these mat warriors lock horns tomorrow night.

While Shamrock is a legend of the octagon, Superfly Jimmy Snuka is one of the most beloved legends of professional wrestling. Like Shamrock, Snuka is not prepared to simply rest on his past accolades. He will once again grace a UPW ring with his presence as he faces a legend (in his own mind) “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce. Pearce is jealous of all the attention that Snuka has received as of late. The “Scrap Daddy” has gone on record to say that he intends to gain the attention which he feels he receives by being the individual to put an end to the illustrious career of “The Superfly” once and for all. Snuka will not only have to contend with Pearce, but with his manager The Big Schwag as well. Will one of the most inspirational Superstars of all time be grounded for good; or will the legend of “The Superfly” soar to new heights?

It will be a family affair, as Jimmy Snuka’s son, Solo Snuka will also be in action tomorrow night. He will be part of Team Savage along with fellow popular Polynesians Skulu and Ma’koa. Other team members include the massive Sabbath, UPW veteran The Navajo Warrior, and making his US UPW debut, King Dabada. They will be facing a dynamic young team of competitors representing Ultimate University. The University will consist of new UPW Mat Wars Champion Tony Stradlin, MTV’s The Real World’s Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, UPW fan favorite Lil’ Nate, as well as the very well rounded and technically sound Tommy Wilson, Andrew Hellman and Shawn Riddik. This should be a very colorful, unpredictable, and highly entertaining match. This wild encounter has the potential to be a real show stealer!

In 6-man Tag Team action, two of UPW’s most physical teams will go at it tooth and nail when The Outlaws (Mike Knox, Marshall Knox, and Derrick Neikirk) take on The Pitbulls (Reyes, Romero, and Puma. No matter what color attire the six competitors in this match wear to the ring, you can bet that they will all leave sporting some black and blue!

So there you have it, “Overload” will be stacked, jacked, and action packed! Everyone at UPW is looking forward to celebrating our 5th Anniversary with each and everyone of you. I have enjoyed bringing you all of the late breaking news leading up to “Overload” over the past several weeks. The time for talk is over. In the immortal words of Pat Patterson from January 23, 1984, “I’m so excited. I don’t even want to talk, I want to watch the match!”
