EWF Review for 12/12/03

EWF delivered a very solid show on Friday nite, capping off a night of very hot action with an emotional win by Vizzion to become the new EWF World Champion.EWF went a little unconventional on a Friday night with a 6:30 start time, but it was a nice change of pace that allowed people to see some good wrestling and still have the rest of the night open. The show started only about 5 minutes late which counts as on-time in the indies.

Psycho Silly Willy over Kid Karnage

This match was a good opener to get things going. I had not seen Karnage in well over a year and I was impressed by how he has developed physically and as a wrestler. The match went back and forth for a while, with Willy mostly maintaining the upper-hand, despite Karange’s attempts to gain the advantage through liberal use of the referee’s 5-count. Karnage managed to escape Willy’s finisher the first time, but eventually fell prey to a vicious Spider Suplex (Top-Rope German Suplex) to earn Willy the win.

Jason King over Ragin’ Dawg to retain the EWF American Title

This was the match of the night in my opinion. Ragin’ Dawg is a very talented worker who deserves more bookings in the SoCal scene. King has done a great job as the American Champ, and tonight was no different. The majority of the match basically consisted of Dawg completely over-powering King and working his leg to prevent King from hitting his Shining Wizard. King would try to mount comebacks, only to get cut off by Dawg who would mercilessly choke him. After a good deal of back and forth action, King hit a Frankensteiner and still managed to land his Shining Wizard on Dawg to get the win.

Kayam over Jason Castro & Vizzion

This match was a solid three-way and would have been better had the referee not gotten totally lost towards the end of the match. Vizzion, being the token baby face, was subject to vicious double-teaming by Kayam & Castro. Vizzion’s only reprieve came when the heels turned on one another. Vizzion was elminated first with a Senton from Kyam. Here is where things get sticky because it appears as if the referee didn’t know that this was an elimination match. Shortly after pinning Vizzion, Kayam used a victory roll with the ropes to pin Castro for the win. Overall, a great match barring the referee’s conufsion.

Intermission was next and the ministers at the Sunrise Church did a prayer.

Steve Masters over Krazy KC

Wow, this match had heat like I have never seen. Before the bell even rang to begin the match, the crowd had rallied squarely behind KC against Masters. Once the action got underway, KC fended off mutlitple attempts from Masters to cheat by pulling on his hair or choking him out. Eventually though, KC was worn down by Masters’ constant cheating and was pinned following a school-boy in the corner when Masters used the ropes for leverage. The place nearly exploded when the referee counted three since Masters was cheating, and from then on out, the crowd began to heckle the ref. A very strong American-style match with amazing heat overall.

West Coast Ryders over Alex Pincheck & Bino Gambino

The veteran Ryders took it to Pincheck & Gambino, the rookies, from the going. Pincehck was impressive early on, hitting a seamless springboard backflip off the the top rope to avoid one of Luna’s attacks. But, Pincheck couldn’t use his speed and ability to escape forever, and the Ryders began to use classic heel tactics to cut him off from Bino. Thus, for about 90% of the match, the Ryders dominated Pincheck, hitting him with everything they had. After a double down, Alex finally made the hot tag to Bino who cleaned house. Bino looked to have things won after hitting a variation of an Reverse DDT until Luna made the save. After kicking the still sore Pincheck out of the ring, Luna nailed Bino with his Splash Mountain DDT to pick up the victory for his team. Crowd was all over the Ryders during the whole match, another great match with some crazy heat.

Vizzion wins a Battle Royal to become the new EWF World Champion

It was stipulated that since Bo Cooper had missed two shows, he was to be stripped of the title and a new champion would be decided in a Battle Royal. All participants from the previous matches were in the Battle Royal, and it was your typical multi-man cluster fuck. The last two men in the ring were Masters and Vizzion. After knocking each other down with clotheslines, Vizzion was able to get up first and knock Masters over the top-rope to win the World Title for his second time. The whole locker room came out to congradulate Vizzion on his victory and the fans were sent home happy with their hero winning the gold.
