Jesus Christ!

I don’t know if I’m right on this one, but during these past 3 weeks, the biggest piece of news going around SoCal is the whole “Messiah thing“. For those who don’t know, Messiah was a staple in the XPW roster, and held two titles in his tenure there. In fact, when he left, he HELD both the XPW World Title and XPW Deathmatch Title. He then left XPW a week before their big show, “Damage, Inc.“, but it wasn’t announced until the day of the show. He then appeared at MPW’s “Version 4.0: Definition of Workrate“ a week later, to the disgust and surprise of many SoCal fans. The reason behind his departure is still unknown, as he did not give a specific reason to why he left XPW, or to why he was fired. either one. To read the interview he did with Mr. Hill and Cal ManSACK, click here.

For those who know me, you know that I’m a fan of Messiah’s, and have been for a while. When I found out that he left XPW, I was both happy and happy! In XPW, in my opinion, his only big match was with Sabu. The first match with Sabu on paper looked great, because you got to see their “homegrown talent” go up against Sabu, a living fuckin’ legend. The match was decent, and showed off Messiah’s talent to work against the big names. . . but then they did it again, and again, and again. Many say Messiah’s best match was against Dynamite D back at “Abuse of Power“ of last year, and I agree. There was no hype around it, no world title, nothing. It was just two guys going out there to entertain the crowd, and that’s exactly what they did. But once Messiah showed he had the makings of a WORKER (NOT A WRESTLER!), they put him into the deathmatches. Personally, I think his best deathmatch was against Supreme at “Go Funk Yourself“, but that’s neither here or there.

So let’s get back to the “controversy.“ A week after XPW’s “Damage, Inc.“ Messiah made his debut at MPW, and the following day, posts were made on XPW fansite messageboards. Many of the posters said that Messiah shouldn’t have left XPW, and that his career will go downhill from here on out. That’s fuckin’ bullshit. How can Messiah’s career rise if he’s working once a month, and when he does wrestle, shows some rust? How can Messiah develop more as a worker AND a wrestler if when he does wrestle, he’s either taking 1,487,468 thumbtacks up his ass, and has to wrestle a not-so-good-anymore-Vampiro? Yeah, his career is gonna skyrocket after his 20th match with Vampiro, yep.

Wait, no it’s not! The only way Messiah can become better is if he works more. Work, work, work. I admit, at MPW, Messiah DID look lost at times. But that’s just the reason why he should work MPW, and other independent groups. By working more, he can sharpen his skills, and in time, become one of the best in Southern California.

I mean, fuck, I doubt the WWF Officials are looking at “Hardcore Conception” for their next WWF Developmental Contract signee. No, they’re looking at UPW, they’re looking at tapes, they’re also looking at gay porn, but that’s beside the point. Jim Cornette has publicly displayed his disgust for XPW on various radio shows, so how’s that going to help Messiah’s career?

I’m not saying XPW is bad, no. I’m just saying you can’t expect to have a long career in wrestling while in XPW. Working once a month isn’t going to help you develop. I mean, sure, they can start running bi-weekly shows, but they’ve been saying that for the past year and a half. Only time will tell when XPW starts running bi-weekly, but that’s a whole different topic.

All I’m saying is that Messiah leaving XPW is a great move, and with the proper booking and training, he can become one of the best in SoCal. He does have the talent, and in my opinion, will show all his critics wrong. But then I could be wrong. . . as per usual.
